Following the announcements of the first seven teams to join the Overwatch League and the player scouting reports earlier this month, Blizzard has released even more information about how they plan to operate the League, this time focusing on the players of the league more than anything else.

Players already on established Overwatch teams, including teams that are part of organizations already confirmed to be in the Overwatch League, are not automatically signed to these rosters when the league begins. This concept works in reverse, too, meaning players can sign with any roster regardless of any team they were previously on.

There will be an official player signing window for the first season of the Overwatch League from August 1 to October 30. Currently announced OWL teams as well as new teams that join the Overwatch League will be able to sign players during this time. The process for signing players during the preseason will be changed for future seasons.

Teams are required to pay players a minimum salary of $50,000 per year in the form of one-year guaranteed contracts with options to extend contracts an additional year. Additionally, teams will be required to give at least 50% of prize money bonuses from the league to their players. The prize money teams and players will be receiving for the first season of the OWL will be $3.5 million, with a minimum of $1 million of that going to the inaugural champions of the league. Overwatch League teams will also provide players with health insurance and retirement savings plans.

Every Overwatch League roster must have between 6 and 12 players. There will be no region locking based on birthplace or home country of any player. Teams will also provide housing and practice facilities to their players which will be required to meet standards set by Blizzard for the league.
