$15,000 Overwatch PIT Championship

The One Game Agency is hosting the next major NA & EU competitive Overwatch tournament: the Overwatch PIT Championship. Taking place from March 20th till April 19th, teams will be competing for a $15,000 total prize pot. The winnings will be divided amongst the top 4 teams.

The tournament will see the debut of the new NRG roster following their recent ongoing restructuring and put them head-to-head against the newly reformed Rogue squad, and LG Evil, who have been dominating the North American scene. It remains to be seen which rosters LDLC and Bench Boys will field as LDLC were rumored to have broken up and the Bench Boys have recently faced several roster changes.

Prize Distribution

The overall $15,000 prize pool will be split up accordingly:

  • 1st: $7,125
  • 2nd: $3,225
  • 3rd: $2,250
  • 4th: $1,200

Teams

NA Invited Teams

  • Immortals
  • compLexity
  • FaZe Clan
  • LG Loyal
  • Rise Nation
  • LG Evil

Format

Viewers will recall similarities to the Overwatch Open as the tournament will see NA and EU teams compete in separate open qualifiers featuring up to 128 teams each. 2 teams will advance from the open qualifiers for each region and join 10 direct-invite teams. These 12 teams from each region will then split into two groups of six teams each to be played in a best-of-three round-robin format. The four top teams from these four groups will then advance to the playoffs for a shot at the $15,000 prize pool in their respective regions.

Additional information can be found at the official championship website.

I agree, it seems rather low for teams of this caliber. Even NGE with their four-team LAN had a 100k prize pool.

Edit: Oh, just realized the entire thing is online. Makes more sense then.

Envy and C9 and Fnatic looking conspicuously absent. Might be that they're all on vaca after all that time in Korea. Certainly opens up the field, though.

*gingerly raises NRG flag*

Edit: From the tourney organizer on Reddit:

"Some of the teams weren't able to accept the invites when we were handing them out"

So we might see them out of the open bracket after all.

Envy is still in Korea, so they wont be in this. C9 has mendo and ryb in Sweden atm. Fnatic has never played in online cups since like pre Eleague

I dont think we will see any of these teams

This is probably a decent chance to see where NRG lies, I don't expect the to pop-off too big though as most teams need time to mesh before they start winning games.

Sad that there won't be a crossover between regions, I want more international play!
Rosters are really interesting concerning that like 5 teams have no official rosters set up, with even more filing under technicalities, so we will see who's staying where.
What really interests me are the open qualifiers, we could see an unknown team come from left field. Personally, I would like Selfless take one of those spots; they suddenly gained a public eye with their level of aggression, then faded into the background again, and I really want to see that strategy against some of the higher level NA teams.

I know most tournaments require 4/6 players to remain constant so if they are keeping that rule then teams like NRG meet that requirement

Question is though, they haven't officially formed their full roster yet right? Wondering if they would accept the invite or would it hasten the contracts

I sure am interested to see them taking part if that's what they decide to do!

Very nice, happy to see tournaments that have most if not all active teams in their region.

Honestly at this point don't even care about NA vs EU type of matches, just need more matches in our own regions for the time being.

Have to be honest, watching Overwatch without any personal stakes isn't much fun. The game is not tf2. But I will be genuinely enthusiastic to see NRG. I hope this is the start of something for them.

Before anyone starts questioning these results, every round was a BO1, so YGGP might have had a lucky map against Fnatic. Semis and beyond will be BO3
