It’s no secret that Laser Kittenz’ founder Alicus is a strong believer in the Overwatch League, having always stated his end goal was to get Laser Kittenz into OWL. Today it was announced that his roster had been sold to Cloud9, the franchise representing his home capital of London, with new DPS Nevix added to the party for good measure.

Alicus will continue in his role as Overwatch director for Cloud9, supporting and guiding the team to potential greatness during Contenders Season One and presumably the Overwatch League.

Cloud9 is a name that fans were expecting to be missing from the hotly anticipated Contenders Season One. Their North American roster failed to qualify in an upset, placing third in their group behind Renegades and Kungarna. The organisation has another chance at building their brand at the top of Overwatch, this time in Europe, with the Laser Kittenz players.

Earlier this month, we reported the shaky future of Cloud9’s North American Overwatch roster, which was missing multiple players after its failed Contenders run. Though it has not been officially confirmed, it now seems likely that the roster will fully disband rather than rebuilding for the Overwatch League, with the former Laser Kittenz roster taking over as the representatives of London.

Alicus was quoted in the official announcement as saying:

It is a great honor to join Cloud9. Jack is a true industry leader, and the iconic brand he has built here speaks for itself. I’m happy to be able to fully focus on equipping us with the best possible chance at winning Overwatch League, and the road starts now with Contenders. Representing London is a dream come true and marks my return to the UK scene. I look forward to making all our fans proud.

Quietly slipped into the official announcement was also news that a DPS replacement had been found for Munchkin and claris, two Korean players who left the roster last month. Former Misfits player Nevix has been added to the new Cloud9 team, with a new analyst LegitRC, formerly of Selfless, also joining the ranks.

This is further indication that a large rebuild is planned for the Misfits roster, initially hinted at earlier today by the removal of Reinforce from the tank role.

Laser Kittenz ended their Contenders Season Zero run in the semifinals, falling to eventual champions eUnited. Despite losing powerhouse Munchkin, the team will be hoping to equal or better their results this season in Contenders Season One - with new addition Nevix under their new banner of Cloud9

The Cloud9 roster is:

  • Andreas "Nevix" Karlsson (DPS)
  • Finley "Kyb" Adisi (DPS)
  • Carl "crems" Aspehult (Flex)
  • Tiago "mowzassa" Rodrigues (Tank)
  • Luís "Greyy" Perestrelo (Support)
  • Ryan "CrusaDe" van Wegen (Support)
  • Chris "spazzo" Infante (Coach)
  • Dillain ”LegitRC” Odeneal (Analyst)
  • Ali ”Alicus” Saba (Director)
