OK I think you strayed a little too far with that analogy. Fnatic have been looking poor recently yeah, but it was a king's row bo1 against a team with some decent talent and they've still got Vone+Haffi on eu ping. Not enough to slam Fnatic into the garbage yet, but after their games in korea and the choke at vegas you can take the lid off the trashcan for sure.

crazy close game, CLG comp looked good against selfless but they have better individual players for the most part, muscled through

Selfless could definitely refine their style, as effective as it is. They do the same thing regardless of how far their spawns are or if they need a finishing blow. With some more thought they could be far better on attack, they barely squeaked through this series and looked way worse attacking Anubis and Eichenwalde.

NA Open Qualifier, two top teams were Fnatic and Selfless with GFE, Method, CLG, Tempo also in there.

Currently on semi-finals, Fnatic got beaten by You Guys Get Paid?, GFE beat Method. Selfless beat enVision, CLG beat Tempo.

NRG are also not playing in PIT Championship, as they feel they haven't had enough time to gel as a team

This game was awesome. Either team could have taken it, was very close and incredibly high level from both teams.

#1 Perhaps something I didn't articulate well enough in this list as well is that the other teams just outside the top10 have worse performances - it's not that we're giving Misfits too much credit for losing slowly, more that AF.Blue, Fnatic, C9, etc. have actually performed worse and so don't deserve to be above them. Somebody has to be better for a team to be displaced, after all. Rogue, Immortals, Hammers etc. simply haven't shown enough against the best teams to warrant top spots despite winning a lot, don't feel it's reasonable to give their wins the same credit.

I think that's a reasonable comment to make though, it's a strong EU team joining a fairly unknown org. Remains to be seen how good this will be in the long-term for EU teams to join smaller orgs; obviously it's a necessity at this point though.

Completely agree, same applies to "EU!", it's missing a crucial syllable.

Plus it's European teams which have historically not been covered well, leading to viewerbases not being built up. Even having said all that though, the viewership for Overwatch is definitely a key point that must be improved for its long-term health. It's early days, lots of time for it to grow.

posted about 7 years ago

There used to be plenty of Israeli TF2 players; they were excellent despite playing with 80-100 ping in Europe. It's a scene in Overwatch that I'd enjoy seeing develop, always wondered if the Israelis would have been far better in TF2 LAN tournaments had they been given the chance.

It's unclear as yet. The casters announced that they would be playing on the new patch but Taimou said they would be playing on the old patch for their first game at least, so who knows when it will roll over - if at all.

posted about 7 years ago

I hope this new patch isn't horrific, the games have been so fun this season. Great balance between viable compositions, everywhere from triple tank to triple dps seems legit based on your strengths and the maps. Would be a huge shame for this new patch to hit mid-season and wipe it away with something OP.

The worst part of the argument from my point of view is that people genuinely seem to believe that there isn't any 'high-effort' content out there.

I've seen a number of upvoted posts saying that without PotG gifs there would be nothing on the subreddit. They think that because the high-effort content gets drowned out, goes by unnoticed, and people have simply given up posting to r/Overwatch as a result, it does not exist.

I found the whole experience to be incredibly smooth, but I'm not sure how much of that was the monitor or the PC. It was nowhere near as drastic as moving from 60hz to 120/144hz though.

Review: BenQ ZOWIE ZONE

https://owcdn.net/img/58a0c449cfe29.png

To unveil the launch of a new product, BenQ ZOWIE invited me to their resident city,Taipei. The product released was truly unique: the ZOWIE ZONE. The company calls it “a complete esports experience” and it fits the bill. The ZONE is essentially an easily adjustable mechanical table seamlessly integrated with a top quality PC and monitor, meaning all you need are peripherals and a mousemat to game at the highest level.

As far as I’m aware, there are no systems like this on the market elsewhere. The table/PC/monitor system all operates through the same simple interface, with only a single button to turn the system on. From there, well-designed adjustment buttons allow you to shift the table precisely to the most comfortable height - anywhere from 759mm to 1409mm. This means that it can easily be used as a standing desk and changes within seconds, gliding smoothly and without noise.

The high-quality PC is attached at the back, well out of the way for even those with long legs, while the 240Hz monitor is positioned on a highly flexible arm allowing full movement.

https://owcdn.net/img/58a0c4688d4b8.jpg

ZOWIE has not released the specifications for the PC as they instead want the focus to be on the personal experiences of players who use it, but for those who love to look up specs, the monitor is their BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 240Hz. I got an opportunity to test the whole system at the product launch and, after playing with the table at various heights, tested the PC in Overwatch and CS:GO.

https://owcdn.net/img/589d3d9dd8e36.jpg

The PC, aided by the 240Hz monitor, provided an incredible smooth experience. I have a good PC at home capable of streaming and playing the game at reasonable framerates; this was the best setup I’ve tried in terms of being stutter- or jitter-free. It maxed out Overwatch at 300fps in most fights, with CS:GO running between 200-300 fps but feeling completely fluid throughout.

It was running Windows 7, optimized to prioritize the active game to avoid lag, with custom ZOWIE software including a custom-built hardware UI. The hardware user interface can be brought up by tapping a button at the front right and pops up inside the game you’re playing - for our test, in CS:GO. It allows you to change monitor settings like contrast, gamma, black equalisers, etc. without craning your head around and tapping on some monitor buttons repeatedly. It pops up directly inside CS:GO and works with keyboard and mouse input, letting you type exact numbers in and set your system up exactly as you like it. At the product launch this in-game UI did not function in Overwatch, but ZOWIE claims this will be rolled out to further titles including Overwatch in the future.

https://owcdn.net/img/58a0c481c6a2e.png

I must profess, I’m a fan of ZOWIE products in general. They frequently combine a simple, functional design with high quality products that are easy to use. The ZOWIE ZONE felt like a ZOWIE product in that sense; the design was incredibly simple and therefore intuitive, the build quality seemed very solid, and the player experience felt excellent.

In addition to the main components, the table itself has buttons and inputs at each corner. At the front right are the buttons to move the table up and down, next to the overall system power button and the button for the in-game UI. At the front left are inputs for a headset, volume controls, and buttons to swap between headphone sound and speaker sound - using the same system as ZOWIE’s external VITAL audio.

https://owcdn.net/img/58a0c4a4a6d07.png
https://owcdn.net/img/58a0c4c06d2ec.png

At the back left are two power outlets and four USB ports, while in the back right there are three more inputs designed for a speaker, keyboard, and mouse.

Near the back left there is also a cup holder that's very difficult to knock over, even for a clumsy oaf like myself, providing a bit more security for your esports station. In front, a phone stand has been placed within reach of the charging area to keep the desk clear and let you view your phone at a good angle whilst playing.

https://owcdn.net/img/58a0c4e38bc6c.png
https://owcdn.net/img/58a0c506928d3.png

This setup was very customisable and ergonomic, adapting to any position I wanted to sit or stand in. I tried leaning all the way back and bringing the monitor with me in a low position, sitting all the way hunched forward over my mousemat with the monitor anywhere from up my nose to at the back of the table, standing up to play - it all felt comfortable and quick to move with this system.

It has not been announced yet when the ZOWIE ZONE will be released or what the exact asking price will be, though this will not be a cheap product. You also won’t be taking it around with you easily, as it weighs 85kg and measures 1218x734mm, sold all attached together - the monitor is the only piece you can buy separately.

The system is designed for LAN cafes, events, and tournaments where players need very smooth and customisable stations in order to perform at maximum capacity. As a former competitor this would have been a perfect desk/PC/monitor hybrid to play on, no question of that, but for tournament organisers getting 12 of these on a stage and having players all at different heights with ZOWIE-only hardware may pose a challenge.

My main take-away from testing out this product and hearing the ZOWIE staff talk about their philosophy is that it was very well designed and easy to use, allowed for a huge range of customisation in a way that no other setup can offer, and was the best PC and monitor I’ve ever used. While it may be a hugely expensive purchase for a gaming cafe or LAN centre, it’s about the only setup I’ve tried that I preferred over my home PC for playing and would therefore pay for.

Check out the official release video below for an idea of how it looks in action:

Whether or not it's done in the "real world" doesn't make it reasonable or intelligent to do so!

posted about 7 years ago

That's a terrible attitude to have and a crazy standard to hold. He deleted the tweet less than an hour before sending it out and he wasn't representing a brand at that point at all. Looking into someone's past - and even worse someone's deleted past - as 'proof' that they don't fit your brand or will harm your image is an awful precedent to set. People make mistakes and people change; in a medium where everything is recorded, namely esports and the internet, you can't hold people to everything they've written and remove all the context (in this situation, it being a quote of somebody else with the profanity removed).

If he had been representing TSM at the time, fair enough. He wasn't. Presumably he wouldn't. You argue as if this one deleted, quoted, censored tweet should stop him ever getting onto a pro team. Reasonable!

It's crazy how inflated people's perception of C9's wins are actually. I collected all the data and have studied it with others behind over.gg.

In the last 2.5 months (I.e. all that is relevant) the relevant teams they have beaten are: CONBOX and NRG x2 at LAN, Citizen7, coL x2, Liquid, FaZe x2, Kingdom, Immortals online. They have lost to nV, FaZe at LAN, Selfless, Kingdom, Immortals x2 online.

Not only was their MLG Vegas run highly underwhelming and worse than Fnatic's despite reaching the same stage, they have a 1-2 record against Immortals, of which both losses were at the end of playoffs in bo5 games to win a tournament. They play against the same competition in NA, barring CONBOX and nV, yet have a 10-5 record where Immortals have a 37-7 record.

The way in which IMT won and have been winning in NA, combined with the underwhelming performances from C9, influenced the decision. There is no denying C9 are a good team and, if they continue winning at apex will almost certainly be in the top10 then. But crucially, that'll be once they have the results to deserve it. It was close, for sure, but I think a lot of fans are overrating C9 in the last few months because of their reputation as an elite NA team.

posted about 7 years ago

It certainly could. If NiP / Rogue play regularly in Europe and are wrecking competition here that is high level, they'd definitely move upwards. They're good enough to be in the top10 I believe, they simply have not played so there's no way to clearly tell.

I was merely quoting the Winter Assembly announcement when I said the "4 best finnish teams", I think I made it clear in my write-up of the teams that these are not world-class sides. Unless the Finnish scene has some underground regular circuit happening I don't see how you can claim NG, DK, and Panic could 'easily' beat these teams, even if they do prove to be better teams.

Rather than complicate matters by labelling mafu and hymzi offtanks or both flexes, I felt it best to leave the roles in the way they played before triple tank. This will be more relevant if they revert at any point in the near future and everybody knows their usual composition.

Actually quite a large amount since it's 1v1 and 3v3. If you scaled it up based on personal winnings it's like playing a 20k tournament for the fireteam and a 50k for the duels. If my maths works that is.

Hope to see some good competition in these, should be fun.

I don't think there is any possible way to find out how much has been paid out, there are almost 300 tournaments concluded so far with like 1.7k players. I imagine not all of it has been paid out, sure, but this is how much has been allocated to players so far.
