Mexico and Brazil etc. were not included in the resident countries able to participate for Contenders. Same for Korea, gotta have those players living in USA/Canada to count - doesn't apply to EU though. They clarified it a while back to the teams.

#6 for gods sake don't come to TaKeOver and listen to us try to order food/drinks or chat with the locals then

Both Dafran and Sinatraa have Genji in their playbooks, they don't use it often but both are pretty scary on it.

C9 LUL is the worst meme I've ever seen.

No team more deserving is a fat meme.

Overwatch Contenders allows an eight-man roster; it would not be too much of a leap to expect the same for OWL given the connection. I think almost all top teams will have seven or eight men if the top tournaments allow it.

This should be a great move for Kaiser and C9. He's the kind of guy you can build the team around just him and Surefour and have an identity.

I am also twelve btw and I love birthdays.

I assume an NA team dropped out, giving them the spot.

Poor Google translate, it tried.

Good stall, looked well-practised, but the Sombra defences were poor overall. Not enough initiative being taken with the EMPs live and too much room given on point A.

Yes, as far as I can work out if Rogue win 3-2 then Lunatic-Hai will get 2nd based on map score before head-to-head ever comes into play.

Rogue need to win 3-1 or 3-0 to make playoffs.

Update: over.gg has been informed by eUnited players that Rubikon was removed from the team and will not be continuing with them. An announcement will be coming shortly from the organisation.

There are tons of reasons why players' personalities would be bad for a particular team. They might be super nice but quiet and focused on winning, for example, and end up not integrating themselves with a fun-loving bunch that are loud and outgoing - or the other way around! No direct insight on the case here but you can't assume everyone who is kicked for personality reasons is toxic imo.

Blizzard haven't actually denied any of the claims in the reports but are strongly hinting that the sources are on the other side of the bargaining table and therefore benefit from crafting the narrative against Blizzard. At least that seems to be my take on it.

posted about 7 years ago

More likely the NA guys couldn't play in the EU qualifiers for some reason

If Blizzard isn't working hard towards selling the broadcast rights for OWL to an outside major company then there's something going wrong anyway. Might not happen for a season or two but I can't see how it wouldn't be going elsewhere than Twitch (maybe not exclusively).

I don't think you can really say this about any team until you see the roster they lock in.

Katowice has been the site of ESL's huge tournaments including two CS:GO Majors - probably many more things I'm unaware of. It's used to this kind of esports event.

Have updated the article with the group format once I decoded it and realised what was going on.

No, samiface was travelling for a charity event this weekend though so we are going to reconvene shortly and get back on it!

I don't know why people are taking this so pessimistically on reddit etc. - this is a clear sign to me that Blizz just has bigger and better plans that they want to deliver. They're not stupid, they're not gonna cancel one of the most popular online tournaments on a whim and leave nothing there to replace it.

As it says in the article, there are other online tournaments coming and probably way more that we don't know about. I think the pessimism is also due to how beloved the OMM were, but it's not the end of the world, end of Overwatch, or even the end of monthly online tournaments. Wipe your salty tears up! This is most likely a sign of bigger things on the horizon.

Wont be watching any Overwatch league, they can enjoy making profits with no viewers. I'll watch streamers, or grass grow.

Remember watch the first 6 tracer stalls on it, the 2 tracer 2 winston 2 lucio comps. While ZP is solo casting and keeping the casting interesting by getting super excited.

Blizzard can keep their shitty league to themselves, alongside their 2 CP game mode.

You're gonna boycott the OWL because you're assuming they had to cancel OMM to make space and deliver something way better.

OK MY DUDE MAKES SENSE.

That's so weird, I really thought I saw him playing quite a bit of D.Va for TS Ninjas in PIT... was I dreaming? Am I just stupid? Tune in next week.

Update 28/04/2017: A TaKeTV organiser has approached over.gg since the publication of this article disputing the report, originating from an organiser aiding TaKeOver, of split invitations between Europe and North America, claiming that the "information is false and not confirmed by an employee of TaKeTV". over.gg will be working to clarify the situation and update as new information comes to light.

There are lots of compilations of his moments on youtube and such, there's a buzz about him for sure but it's hard to tell how legit it is. Excited to see him play.

posted about 7 years ago

I meant that in the sense that he hadn't been approached. Or maybe just playing dumb! I'm not sure what you mean here as it's rarely (never?) management's fault if you're not getting invites. TOs decide who they wanna invite based on results or brands or w/e almost always.

posted about 7 years ago

imo if they wanted the absolute best teams, they'd go for inviting:

nV + Selfless from NA
Riders + eUnited from EU

let ex-cyclone, misfits, dignitas fight for the final 2 spots w/ the others, but it's hard to split the eu teams with only a couple tournaments so far

plus seems unlikely that nV and selfless have been invited since nV have APEX games on 30th May and Selfless coach was unaware of invites yet. We'll see!

World Cup should actually be amazing this time around because you have the potential for Rogue, Misfits, NiP, Blank, whatever Korean team is picked, plus a bunch of crazy superteams to be playing in one tournament. Should be insane if the selections are reasonable.

posted about 7 years ago

birdring was often as good as evermore on roadhog in clutch situations, will be interested to see how that duo pairs up. Wakawaka now on support too!

posted about 7 years ago

Korean teams will force them to adapt and they've looked shaky on comps outside their triple DPS + Winston in general. They might well get stuck against DVa dive comps or tanky teams with more coordination and peel.

posted about 7 years ago

That's definitely not the biggest reason. These are also the most viewed, most upvoted on reddit, etc. Seagull is literally that popular. Whatever he touches gets attention. It's nothing to do with TF2, otherwise Gale Force would get the same.

posted about 7 years ago

Really enjoying Liquid's prep and plan for the games, they have looked on another level recently. I hope they keep it up and force teams to adapt against them.

posted about 7 years ago

Meta will probably do about as well as RunAway did, lose most games and upset someone who will then question their existence

posted about 7 years ago

wNv are apparently a Chinese organisation with a Korean team. This means they haven't been competing in APEX - whether due to their org or APEX not letting them is unclear - and they are ineligible to play in the OWPS due to not being Chinese nationals. So they're occupying the no man's land between Korea and China, wrecking kids in the Nexus Cups presumably until their contracts expire or a LAN comes up they can compete in.

They get to pick the side on the first map rather than it being coin flip.
