Hot off the presses comes the news that Overwatch is to make its first appearance at Intel Extreme Masters in two weeks' time. Taking place at the Goyang Sports Complex, IEM Gyeonggi will be South Korea's first Overwatch stadium event and feature a $100,000 prize purse.

The event will run 16th-18th December on the same weekend as MLG's Vegas North American invitational and feature "six Overwatch teams from across Europe and Asia" though the teams and tournament specifics are as yet unannounced.

IEM know how to put on a good show

One might speculate on an initial round robin format with the slightly awkward number of six teams. In terms of the European representatives REUNITED and Rogue jump to mind after their time spent in Korea for OGN's APEX Season 1, but their foreigner bedfellows NRG and EnVyUs will be living it up in Las Vegas.

Overwatch will feature alongside the StarCraft II and League of Legends tournaments which are the meat of the event, but as the most popular game in South Korean PC bangs in recent months it might just steal the show. Stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
