BK Stars have announced that the team will be coming to an end, with all of the players becoming free agents. The team stated that they’d planned to go their separate ways during the middle of APEX Season 3’s group stage.

BK Stars made their debut last fall in APEX Season 1, fighting through the qualifiers to earn their spot in OGN’s inaugural season. Once they made it to the main event they went in with a trailblaze, placing first in their group against the likes of Kongdoo Unica, NRG Esports, and MVP Space. They kept up their undefeated run in the playoffs with a 3-0 victory against LW Blue in the quarterfinals before Afreeca Freecs Blue finally put an end to their hot streak in the semifinals.

Their run in APEX Season 1 showcased a lot of potential from BK Stars, but they weren’t able to turn it into more top finishes in 2017. In APEX Season 2, the team failed to make it out of groups, winning only one match against MVP Infinity and suffering losses to Season 1 champions EnVyUs and APEX Challenger newcomers Meta Athena in their group.

APEX Season 3 saw history repeating itself, as BK Stars were once again placed in a group with EnVyUs and Meta Athena, with Rhinos Gaming Wings being their only new opponent in the group. The team was only able to win against Rhinos before falling to the other two teams, and a 3rd place finish in the group meant that their opportunity to make it to the playoffs was no longer a reality.

With the stars heading off into space, they’ll be looking for a another team to join, either in Korea or in the West. Some former members have already found a new home across the world; former DPS Carpe has joined Selfless Gaming in NA, and former head coach NamedHwi will be heading to EU to become Laser Kittenz assistant coach, with both of them getting ready for Contenders Season Zero in their respective regions.

The final constellation for BK Stars was:

  • Chae "Bunny" Joon-hyuk (DPS)
  • Lee "Carpe" Jae-hyeok (DPS)
  • Shin "BERNAR" Se-won (Tank)
  • Ham "Tarpon" Eun-sang (Tank)
  • Lim "Twinkl" Young-bin (Support)
  • Kim "Alarm" Kyeong-bo (Support)
  • Go "NamedHwi" Se-hwi (Head Coach)
