Confirmation has emerged on Twitter this afternoon that former BK Stars DPS, Carpe, and former Rise Flex, Midnight, will be part of the Selfless roster for Overwatch Contenders NA Group Stage this weekend.

After u/HardCarryOW noticed the two new additions on the Selfless Contenders roster, emongg noted on Twitter, "Reddit may or may not have discovered something about our 6th" before following up with the full confirmation.

Speculation had been swirling recently as to who exactly would be brought in to replace the suspended Daniel "dafran" Francesca at such relatively short notice. However, this may only be one piece of the puzzle as it has emerged that the other half of Selfless's devastating DPS duo, sinatraa, is currently mid-flight across America and is rumoured to be playing for the United States in the impending USA vs. Canada showmatch in ~30 hours’ time.

Selfless are currently masking their player roles on their Contenders team profile, but we could potentially see both Carpe and Midnight starting for them on Sunday when they begin their Group A campaign against FaZe, CLG and Liquid.

The recent demise of BK Stars after APEX Season 3's group stage and ongoing roster turbulence in Korea has created a golden opportunity for Western teams to incorporate Korean talent. Carpe spent the lion's share of his time in BK Stars playing Genji, but also racked up considerable match time on McCree and Soldier 76. Fellow free agent, Midnight, is best known for his performances on Zarya and D. Va for Rise but has also shown his Soldier 76 chops in the past. It remains unclear if either player has been contracted at this point.

Whoever lines out on Sunday, it will be an incredible feat if they manage to distil a winning team chemistry with virtually no practice in the wake of dafran's suspension. The current Selfless Gaming roster for Contenders is now:

  • Lee "Carpe" Jae-hyeok (이재혁) (DPS)
  • Jay "sinatraa" Won (DPS)
  • Jeff "emongg" Anderson (Flex)
  • Bobby "Kresnik" Wiemer (Tank)
  • Michael "Michael3D" Wilbanks (Support)
  • Daniel "dhaK" Martinez Paz (Support)
  • Mike "Midnight" Ryan (Substitute)
  • Dillain "LegitRc" Odeneal (Coach)
