The Overwatch League previously stated that Fl0w3R was subject to a team option, meaning the Excelsior have declined the option and let Fl0w3R enter the free agent market.

Fl0w3R joined the Excelsior prior to the start of the 2019 season, his first season of eligibility for the Overwatch League. He only played in six regular season matches and two playoff matches for the Excelsior.

There was much hype surrounding Fl0w3R when he first joined XL2 Academy, the academy team of the Excelsior, in early 2018. However, the DPS lineup for the Excelsior became crowded by the time Fl0w3R became eligible to play in the Overwatch League. He was one of five DPS players on the Excelsior roster in 2019.

Fl0w3R was the only Excelsior player subject to a team option. He now joins Excelsior off-tank MekO on the free agent market. All other Excelsior players from 2019 are under contract for the 2020 season.

Thats odd he was doing great when he got playtime in Stage 4. But I guess it doesnt matter when Libero is on the team

Wonder how much this was about him being so hyped up since World Cup 2017 and not able to deliver expectations 2 years later same kind of performances? Or is this just about giving him a chance to play somewhere else as NYXL wouldn't be really stupid to give up on Libero or SBB. Would be surprised, if we won't see him in OWL 2020.

Had to be one of the three Flower, Pine or Nenne, who would be dropped (or change role).

This much is true but Pine didn't get heavy play time either, effectively Mr. Hightlight Reel is Bench Reel. lol

I still don't understand what they are doing with Pine though. I get how good he is. He arguably has the best hitscan ability the game has ever seen. But what's the point of having him if you don't play him?

From all the heroes we've seen him play, only his Mccree is a real upgrade compared to SBB imo. And Mccree has been in a weird/unexisting place in the meta for the two last years.

I don't think at any point I've ever thought Pine was somewhere close to being the best hitscan player in the game. Most flashy =/= best hitscan.

He has a pretty damn good widowmaker too though. Is he more known for his mccree? yes. Does he play a widowmaker just as good? yes

I can see why he didn't play in the beginning of the season when goats was meta but during stage 4 the team was 4-3. Widowmaker was still a viable pick during and it doesn't make sense why he doesn't play

Yeah he's a good widow, but saying he's even a top 5 widow is very exaggerated imo.

He's too aggresive, based on OWL S1. People often only remember his flanks where he get 3-4 picks. But the times he died because he's overextending, nobody remembers. And the amount of support they gave him on certain maps was ridiculous.

Widowmaker wasn't that much of a pick last stage cause it was 90% Doomfist/Reaper. I guess his reaper was worse than SBB's. You can't really say someone is the best hitscan player in the game if you can only play 2 heroes at top OWL level?

I get what you're saying, but if you think he's overrated, then why did flower get released and not Pine?

There's multiple factors to consider why Pine remains and Flower goes.

Which one of them is happy to bench 75% of the time and play 25% of the time? Since SBB and Libero or even Nenne seems to be their first picks. Some people are happy with being bench and play only a little, but some won't be.

I don’t think they decide on which player to let go based on if their ok being on the bench or not

It's one factor. It's not about what team wants, it's also about if player is fine about being a bench player.

why would they release pine when that would mean they still have to pay his contract. that's a waste, keep him on until his contract is over

Because Pine is still under contract and Flower wasn't. So another team has to buy Pine to release him from his contract.

His consistency on widow is not the best, but he basically has a 1 in 5 chance of killing atleast 3 people, which is not something most players can do. Surefour has a higher chance of getting that first pick but a low chance of having follow up. It all depends on the situation, if a first pick is all you need then pine is not the best widow. If you need more clutch/comeback/shut down power, then pine is probably the best you can get
