Australia is back with yet another major LAN event, with the best teams competing in Australia set to battle it out at the The CyberGamer OCE Circuit Playoffs. Teams Athletico CAMO, Masterminds GC, WillWEED and 4Legs have gathered in Adelaide to compete for their share of the $10,000 AUD ($7,500 USD~) prize-pool. Three of the four attending teams played in last month's ESL LAN, with CG being WillWEED's first attendance of a major LAN event as a team.

The four qualified teams earned their spots through the online regular season, spanning seven weeks of play. Athletico and Masterminds claimed the first and second seeds respectively, whilst WillWEED earned themselves the third seed. Plot 1 were the final qualifying team at the end of the season, securing the fourth seed after their defeat to Scylla Esports in the last game of the season was overturned due to the failure of members of Scylla to posses an active CyberGamer premium membership. However, Plot 1 voluntarily conceded their spot in the playoffs to 4Legs, with the death of Plot 1 soon announced after this fact.

CG Bracket

The event takes place on the 11th of June, with all matches being streamed on CyberGamer's Twitch channel. The LAN utilises a double-elimination format, with elimination matches decided by the best-of-five maps and upper bracket matches being decided by the best-of-three. The victors of the upper bracket will receive a one map advantage in the grand final.

The Athletico v 4Legs Rivalry Continues

CyberGamer LAN will be yet another chapter in the rivalry between Athletico CAMO and 4Legs. The teams have traded series both online and at LAN. 4Legs claimed a 2-0 victory over Athletico in their matchup during the regular season of the CG Circuit but Athletico bounced back to claim victory at the ESL LAN in late May. Currently viewed as the top two teams competing in Australia, the event will offer 4Legs the opportunity for revenge and Athletico the chance to secure their position as the best team currently competing in the country.

The opening fixture of the tournament will feature a match-up between these two rivals in the first round of the upper bracket.

Will the Real Masterminds Please Stand Up?

Mastermind GC's third place finish at the ESL LAN was a difficult result to assess, with the team missing their captain and support player CantuS due to passport issues. This CyberGamer LAN offers Masterminds the opportunity to show just what their full roster can do, with the current proficiency of the team at LAN still remaining a mystery.

Masterminds will also be playing with their third DPS duo since the roster was signed by the organisation in mid-April. As Nectar chose to step back from competitive Overwatch and the decision being made to move SoundWaves to the bench, new players Willx and Hus were added to the roster after the conclusion of the regular season. Willx, last seen competing on the now disbanded Nemesis, offers the team a versatile hero pool whilst Hus adds both experience and skill, previously playing on Fusion Girls (now Blank Esports) and Plot 1. The two new additions to the team will face the ultimate test from the get-go and will hope to prove themselves to be the upgrade Masterminds need to take their play to the next level.

Masterminds GC will face WillWEED in their first match of the tournament.

WillWEED's Chance To Prove Themselves

WillWEED narrowly missed out on a spot at the ESL LAN, with a third placed finish in the ESL April Monthly. CG is the perfect occasion for the team to butt in and prove that they deserve to be discussed as one of the best teams competing in Australia alongside Athletico and 4Legs. A high placement in the tournament will also be key for the teams search for an organisation. WillWEED claimed an impressive victory over 4Legs in the regular season but fell 2-0 to both Athletico and Masterminds. Keeping these mixed results in mind, WillWEED could be the potential dark horse of the event.

WillWEED play Masterminds in their first match of the tournament.

Starting at 10:30 AM AEST time, BobbyJ, Genome and ZeNox will be casting all games in the tournament. A full schedule for the event can be found here.
