Welcome to your new home for the next six days. This is the jumping off point for our coverage of ELEAGUE and FACEIT's $300,000 Overwatch Open main event that is set to explode on to your screens in roughly twelve hours' time. Below you can find a view of the tournament from 50,000 feet, but over the coming hours and days we will be bringing you previews of the regions, match by match reporting and live updates on our trusty match ticker. We'll endeavour to link everything right here so you don't miss a thing. This is a competitive Overwatch news site, so spoilers will be inevitable - we make no apologies for that. If you are brave enough read on.

Matches & Schedule

The final standings from the regional online qualifiers were used to seed the GSL-style double elimination brackets which see each region split further in to two groups of four teams. The top two from each group will progress to the four team single elimination regional playoffs.

One team will emerge to represent each region in a guaranteed EU vs NA Grand Final where the winner will walk away with a cool $100,000 - one and a half times bigger than victor's spoils at ESL's Atlantic Showdown and the biggest prize in Overwatch to date. The spectacular finale will be broadcast live on TBS and Twitch from the ELEAGUE Arena in Atlanta.

Prize Distribution

The headline $300,000 breaks down as follows depending on which stage of the tournament teams are eliminated:

Grand Finals

  • 1st: $100,000
  • 2nd: $32,000

Regional Playoffs

  • 2nd: $24,000
  • 3rd-4th: $18,000

Regional Groups

  • 5th-8th: $6,000

With all expenses paid by ELEAGUE and FACEIT to attend their main event, these figures represent pure profit for the players and their organisations. All that on top of a tidy salary? Not bad work if you can get it!

Coverage

Every game will be streamed live on twitch.tv/overwatchopen with a star studded line up of broadcast talent that sees CS:GO legends Anders and Semmler making their Overwatch commentator debuts alongside the COD/Halo stylings of Goldenboy and Mr. X. Community champion ZP will be bringing a years' worth of knowledge and insight to the analyst desk, joined by HuK and Seltzer who did a great job at the Atlantic Showdown in August.

We'll be doing our best to put all that in to words right here on over.gg, but until then you can dig deeper at live.playoverwatch.com, overwatchopen.com, Liquidpedia, GosuGamers and r/competitiveoverwatch.
