im thinking its the main tanks thats going bye bye, though. the off tank players are OFTEN the more mechanically skilled and flexible

I'm just gonna copy some thoughts I posted on a discord:

I think it will be great for the pace of the game, and removing some of the reliance on teamwork and shifting it over to individual play, will be great for longevity and playerbase, especially on fucking EU....
I can imagine a spread out Dva dive meta with this, and that fits me just fine
as a tank player i always have to rely on a tank that either plays around me, or that knows what opening to look for and take, AND very rarely did i get that, mostly just a flanking hog, that think him having gold elims while letting me get overly pressured alone isnt the reason we're losing

this is all speculation though, hope I'm not wrong.

I would have prefered if flex became its own role and main tanking got, huge survival buffs (similar to what they showed, maybe even more)
a flex role with all the off tanks, and heroes like sym, doom, reaper, mei etc. rebalanced ofc

Game play wise, I like it and think it has potential...but my heart goes out to all the players that are gonna fucked by this.

I think people are kinda over reacting to this. It doesn’t fuck over off tank players. Most off tank heroes are all gonna get buffed to make them capable main tanks and overwatch 2 should be out a few months before it’s used for competitive play so players can adjust, so off tank players aren’t just being left to dry. I think its a little lazy from blizzard that they made this Change becuse they don’t know how to balance tanks right but I think it will help the game as a whole be more enjoyable. I think most of the fright from the community is more just because it’s a huge change and something we have no experience with, not because it actually hurts the game

I think it does though. You're essentially having to relearn a whole new role after specializing for X amount of time. A few months is not enough to make up for the couple of years or more that you'd put into your play up until that point.

Best I can hope for is that the transition starts as soon after the year's OWL season as possible so players can focus on the changes and decide what they're gonna do.

As for it hurting the game, yeah that one we really won't know until we get our hands on it so I do agree that the panic in that regards may or may not be justified. Like you said, it's a huge change so this much concern or worry was inevitable imo.

Again tho if the change was right now yea off tanks in the game we have now off tanks would be screwed. But off tank heroes even now can have main tank quality’s, like the justices Cinderella run was using gigahog. I think off tanks are going to be buffed enough to be main tank capable and it’ll evolve the tank position so u can’t just specialize heroes

Again, OTs cannot practice this. Knowing about it now prevents them from being blindsided, it does not help them develop the new skills they'll need. The few months they'll have to actually transition is nothing compared to the time they've spent practicing their current role. It's about knowing how to play your characters and how they function in the team, and that takes more than a couple of months to not just develop, but hone to OWL's top level.

Some will transition more easily than others. It might just depend on what happens to their best heroes but yes, I think this is a bigger deal for thank players, OTs specially, that qu'au you seem to indicate.

Everyone is gonna transition tho I don’t think people have really grasped yet how much the game is going to change. This isn’t just going to be a large update where it’s just the ui being updated and a few heroes and maps being added to pvp. Shits gonna change a lot. Every hero is gonna see a change and I’d say at least a dozen are gonna be reworked. Everyone is going to have to change their play style or the way they play their heroes because the game is going to change rapidly. I don’t think it’s bad people reacting is bad at all I’m saying treating it like every off tank is fucked is wrong right now. Either they are going to be able to transition of the game/heroes will allow off tanks heroes and players to be main tanks now

With the information that is currently available, the reaction is to be expected. We literally can only look at this from the lens of what OW1 would look like 5v5. Yes, the entire game will change. Every single roll will have to adjust, but team are going from 6 on-field to 5 on field, so teams will get smaller by nature. Looking at it right now, with this announcement, tanks is the role that will inherently see the biggest change. So tanks players will inherently see the biggest change in how they interact with the game.

That's where the concern comes from, and again, with the information we have, I don't think it's misplaced.

Well first reaction is probably it's off-tank who gets benched/dropped as majority thinks need Winston or Rein, but when all current 8 (and possibly more?) heroes are meant to be "Main Tanks" in OW2 I don't think there will be a single player who can master all of them or 5-6 of them that team would be willing to go whole season with 1 tank.

To be fair it won't affect that many players as there is 54 Tank players in the League atm, which is basically 14 "extra" for current needs and I'm pretty sure most teams end up going with 2 tanks (assuming max team size might be changed to 10 though) maybe few brave teams go with 1. Sure 20 people effectively won't be playing, but can someone name a tank player who is excellent Rein, Winston, Orisa, Dva, Zarya, Hog, Ball, Sigma (in their current builds)? No need to think who could be as we don't even know, what stuff will be changed for some of them.
