why do you think so? Considering they just hired huk and it seems like his role is to create team and lw blue had to pull out of apex because of earlier owl comitments it doesnt really make sens

Frags

Not sure about that. Probably most of LWB will go to C9 London since they were looking for koreans, but not all members (for example, Fl0w3r doesn't meet the age requirement). I'd say SBB and Mano at least, probably Pine too.

And tbh I hope Luna will get a spot in an OWL team, because I love that guy and he has the mindset to improve and deserves it imo.

#20

Apparently the whole squad was picked up, and you could just have him sit on the bench for Pine until he's of age. Wouldn't be too surprising if they could use his year of birth to arrange something with the league, but I'm not sure C9 is where they're going.

As for Luna he's a bit lacking and as of right now I wouldn't quite say he deserves it. Yes he could improve but there are a good deal of proven choices that would be a better pick then him at the moment. Because of that I don't think there's an OWL spot for him in the near future but I do hope he gets to play at APEX again because he is a good support under the right conditions.

#21
remiska
5
Frags

i dont think you can put him on bench, every owl player (in squad or on bench) needs to be accepted by blizzard its not about playing, he cant even be on team
unless they keep him outside of owl team but in organization but im not sure if his parents would agree and its just bad idea in general
and personaly i also dont think their gowing to c9 but boston isnt likely either

#22

The thing is, it's written you have to be 18 before April, the 5th 2018, and Fl0w3r is born in May iirc. So he can't even be signed before that, and I don't know if roster are going to be locked before the league begins.

#23
remiska
5

thats just my guess but i would say that blizzard will lock rosters before each season starts and make transfer windows (maybe one maybe more) during the season

#24
KuroiRyuu9625

Frags

Yeah, still I'd hope Blizz would put in clauses for players that will be 18 in that calendar year and allow them to be on the bench with the option of signing/playing once they hit 18.

In my opinion it would be a disservice to the league to not allow them to play because of their month or birth, specially for ridiculously talented players like Fl0w3r but hey, rules are rules right?

If for some reason they really can't do that then they could always send him to LWR until the next signing window. I'm also wondering if that's what LH will do with WhoRU, if he chooses to stay on board for the next 2 years.

#25

Yeah, but americans don't like to bend the rules unfortunately.

LW Red Fl0w3r and LH#2 WhoRU until they get older? Or maybe on loan for other teams such as KDP or MVP Space? In any case, I'm excited to see what's going to happen for them.

rumors are that FaZe Clan is close to a deal to be a part of season 1 although there is no information on what market they will represent, although the Las Vegas teamhouse for Carpe, George and the boys might have something to do with it.

I think that we will see what comes up but i do believe that the current official teams plus FaZe, EnVy and a second European franchise in either Paris, Frankfurt, Cologne or Berlin will be where we launch the league from. negotiations will likely continue to take place for additional franchises for season 2 and beyond. expect Season 1 to last from early december to late april with double round robin league play and the opening round of playoffs taking place at a studio in Southern California with the Semis in a larger arena in town before going overseas for finals, likely in a city that will gain a team for season 2

personaly i dont think so, ill be supprised if more then one team gets 12 players, both apex season 3 and contenders allow more then 6 players and hardly any team uses it, unless they know theyll lack player during one of hte matches (rogue)
also just look at teams already confirmed for owl immortals misfits and lh , only immrotals has more then 6 players (well only 1 player more)

APEX teams have started making use of it the the past couple of seasons, this one more than before, but that's 8 players, so like you said I'm not sure many teams will go with a full 12 man roster. I'd say 8-10 maybe? Since you can get meta proof teams with that many.

I think right now most NA/EU teams have 6-7 with the extras being more for emergency than anything. The only teams I know for sure are trying to get 12 are Seoul and London but it remains to be seen it they stick to the max or not.

According to ESPN, as mentioned in these post:
https://www.over.gg/5420/lw-blue-set-to-take-nyc-owl-spot-sources-say
https://www.over.gg/5419/lw-blue-in-nyc-for-owl

The the LWB squad would have been picked up by the NYC group. Not sure how I feel about this, on paper they're really good and I guess it was likely to happen somewhere given the lack of Korean spots compared to the general strength of the region, but yeah, interesting. As expected Fl0w3r is too young to be signed so Pine will probably be stepping in for him. Really unfortunate that one of the best and most versatile DPS players won't be in this year but I'm also interested in what they do with him.

The article also mentions Luminosity Gaming playing a part in this so I wonder if that was the main reason they didn't pursue an OWL spot with their own squad whether it was the current one or a rebuild.

I really, truly hope that there are another 4-8 teams announced before the start of the season. There are too many talented players in the game to only field 10 teams. If there are only 10 teams, even if each team has 4 substitutes, that's only 100 players. IMO there are easily 200-300 "pros" that deserve to make a living in this game.

Teams I'd love to see:

Melbourne/Sydney
Tokyo
Additional Korean teams (multiple LA teams means we could see multiple Seoul teams)
Seattle
Chicago
Paris
Berlin
Rio

I'm thinking 12 or 16 would be the magic numbers though I'd be leaning more towards the latter (hopefully).

To add to your list:

Toronto - Sentimental favorite cause Canadian
Seoul/Busan - I'm thinking it would probably another Seoul team but if it wasn't the case Busan could be an alternative.
Katowice - The team might only have a single, or no, polish player but the scene itself would be my reason for having one.
Bangkok
Beijing
Moscow - Not sure how Russia would handle that one but hey.
Just to name a few, but yeah, I'd like to see a strong 16 team first season and my impression is that we'd see at least 12.

#46

I couldn't tell you which teams I'd want to see by the first season, but I know there's quite a few places I'd want teams by the time the OWL hits its cap (I believe the end goal is 28? That could be wrong or it could change, though). I am going to go strictly outside of the United States because I feel you can use any number of large cities to fill in the rest of the open spots.

-Another South Korean team
-Tokyo
-An Australian team, Melbourne and Si-Sydney are probably the best two options, I would agree
-Paris
-Berlin
-Rio
-Moscow
-Toronto
-Beijing
-Taipei
-Bangkok (Didn't consider this until Kuroi's reply, but this would honestly be a good spot)
-2 to 3 other European teams, I wouldn't know which cities exactly but there are some good choices in Italy, Spain, England, Germany, and Russia in particular. Maybe Stockholm or Helinski could get a spot?
-Possibly another South American team depending on how well received the Rio spot is, either Santiago or Sao Paulo

These, on top of the 10 spots we already know, make up 23 to 25 spots. There are a lot of good places in the US, Canada, Korea, and Europe that could compete for the last 3 to 5. Of course, I doubt all of these spots will happen in the real world because I don't have a great understanding of how other countries would take to a global competitive league and how travel would work between countries already in the OWL and countries involved in my proposed cities.

OK from what i read blizzard plans to have 12 teams during 1st season, also this was said about 1st season:

The inaugural season is set to take place in Los Angeles to accommodate teams already stationed there. The regular season games are set to take place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The teams are allowed to run up to five amateur tournaments in their respective regions, such as the Online Division and Regional Contenders.

Additionally, sources say Blizzard has set a goal of 12 teams for the first Overwatch League season.

In a press conference that was held in Korea a few months ago, Nate Nanzer stated that he aims to have 12~16 teams for the OWL. Also, "Blizzard has set a goal of 12 teams" could just mean that they want at least 12 teams. So I think we might end up seeing more than 12 cities. But most likely, we will see 12 teams as you said for the first season, as most of the recent articles seem to state that Blizzard is aiming to have 12 cities for the first season.

Link to the captured image of the slide with hypothetical 16 city spots shown during the conference:

yes but i also think that "set a goal" could be read as "hopes to get" 12 citys (and without his many wont start a league) and 16 is a best case scenario and with owl set to start in the 3rd quarter of this year i think its safe to assume we will have 12

The cities I hope to see in the OWL depends on how Blizzard plans to operate OWL. If it is going to be just one large global league, I think having most of the team in NA would make most sense, but if they want to have separate regional leagues followed by global championship league like League of Legend, I want to see more cities in China, Korea, Europe, and Australia. But I think having separate regional league is not realistic for the amount of investments necessary for each team. At most, I guess they might divide the league into two region, kind of like NBA, MLB, and MLS, followed by playoff matches.

If it's just going to be one giant league:
Seattle, Chicago, Toronto, San Antonio-Houston, D.C., Las Vegas, Denver, Atlanta, Vancouver,
Seoul #2, Beijing, Paris, Sydney

If it is going to be two regional leagues followed by playoffs (like MLB, NBA, MLS):
Beijing, Seoul #2, Busan, Tokyo, Sydney/Melbourne,
Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Cologne, Frankfurt, Katowice,
Rio, Mexico City,
Seattle, Chicago, Toronto, San Antonio-Houston

#69

blizzard said they want to have eventually 28 teams (max they want) so its not giant league and i think theyll keep them all in one league (no separation between regions) so you picked a little bit too many citys ;)

EDIT based on how teams have been performing up to now. I will list the location AND the roaster I want to see together as I think for some of the teams, it would be better to see in certain location.

Team Seoul - Lunatic Hai + MA DPS Duo

  • EscA
    Gido
    Miro
    Zunba
    Tobi
    Ryujehong
    LEETAEJUN
    Libero

*Addition of Libero is a must imo since Whoru wont be able to join for awhile due to age restriction. Saya has similar hero pool with most of LH DPS, so probably not as needed as Libero.

Team Boston - Kongdoo Panthera

  • Birdring
    Rascal
    Fissure
    Void
    Bdosin
    Wakawaka

Team New York - LW Blue

  • Saebyeolbe
    Pine
    Mano
    Janus
    MekO
    JJoNak
    Arhan
    Fuze
*Flow3r (to join in May, 2018)

*Arhan is a great player with similar expansive hero pool as Flow3r. As Sylph retired, they would need another Lucio player, which I think Fuze would do a great job of.

Team Dallas-Austin - EnVy Us

  • Taimou
    EFFECT
    cocco
    Mickie
    HarryHook
    chipshajen

Team LA - Immortals

  • Grimreality
    Agilities
    Fate
    envy
    hyped
    Verbo
    KariV
    Recry
    Gamsu
    Donghyun

*Immortals is a decent team with decent players. They would do okay in the OWL, but to be a good team, they need addition of some great players. As immortals is a team with lot of Korean connections, adding a few Korean players probably would not disrupt the team synergy that much.

Team LA2 - FaZe Clan

  • ShaDowBurn
    Carpe
    FCTCFTN
    SPREE
    Joemeister
    Rawkus
    coolmatt69
    Custa

*I think flex-tank and flex-support are FaZe's weaker positions, and adding coolmatt and Custa would certainly benefit them. Roolf and bani instead of Custa might also work. Also, Carpe tends to be inconsistent in his form, so adding another tracer player might be necessary.

Team San Francisco - NRG + EnVision

  • sinartraa
    iddqd
    xQc
    Jaru
    McGravy
    Tseini
    numlocked
    Fire
    Fahzix

*EnVision is the team that really surprised me, and I think they certainly deserve to be in the OWL. To maintain their team synergy, I think they should be picked up as a team, so I think San Francisco would be a good option. sinatraa and Jaru DPS duo would also be great to see.

Team Miami-Orlando - Misfits

  • TviQ
    Logix
    CWoosH
    Manneten
    Zebbosai
    Zuppehw

Team London - C9 + eUnited

  • Kruise
    vallutaja
    Surefour
    mowzassa
    SPACE
    neptuNo
    Boombox
    Greyy

*eUnited is not playing as well as I expected, but I still think eUnited has some great players. C9 and eUnited roasters seem to complement each other pretty well.

Team Shanghai - LGD

  • uNdeAD
    Eileen
    guxue
    KaPkAn
    mg
    130
    shy

Team Hong Kong - MY + OPC Players

  • leave
    Yangx1aoLg
    jiqiren
    lateyoung
    creed
    zhufanjun
    baconjack
    timon
    ErsTer
    anamo

*Hong Kong is a unique city that although it is in China, it is free from many Chinese regulations. For that reason, I think it is the perfect location to bring additional Chinese talent along with great players from Pacific Championship.

Team Las Vegas - Rogue

  • aKm
    SoOn
    NiCOgdh
    KnOxXx
    winz
    uNKOE

*Yes, I know they have not been performing in the contenders, but I believe they are still great players. They are beginning to show that they can learn to coordinate team plays. I think they can rise to be great team again once they adjust their coordination.

Up to here is where I hope to see in the first season. When we get more teams, I want to see the following:

Team Toronto: Canada deserves a team as there are many great Canadian players.

Team Paris: Gamers Origin (Team for great French players to join)

Team Stockholm-Katowice: Gigantti + 123 (Team for players from Sweden, Poland, Finland, Norway, etc.)

Team Sydney: Team for great Australian players

Team Beijing: I believe China has enough talent and fan base to form another team. For example,

  • Diya
    Krystal
    Yakumo
    YaoYao
    Tian
    Time
    5King
    BUG

Team Berlin-Frankfurt: Team for great players from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, etc.

Team Busan: There is more than enough talents not included in LH, KDP, and LWB to form another great team in Korea. For example,

  • Haksal
    Stitch
    OneFact
    Recry
    Sayaplayer
    Kaiser
    Gamsu
    Butcher
    Donghyun
    Kalios
    ChoiHyoBin
    Bumper
    JJanu
    iDK
    Undine
    KoX

Team Chicago: Team for great FA players in NA

Team Madrid: Team for great players from Spain and Portugal

i would be carefull with "giant league" even 16 teams league is small (im gona make thread to look into and disscus how ow scenewill look like when owl starts)

its gona be (for now at least) one league, first season will take place in la

eunited lately looks very shaky and without owl spot i would honestly not be suprised if organization droped them (i know eunited best eu team and so on BUT they dont and prodably wont have a spot in owl so it would be better for players to look for place in other organizations)

NetEase has team cc and they got this team to learn more about scene well see what team theyll pick

You're probably right in that it will just be one league. I just don't see how they are going to function as one league with the cities being so far away though. I know they are going to play all of the matches in LA for the first season, but playing home and away matches for the later seasons, I just don't see it being feasible. That's the only reason I thought they might divide it into two leagues with playoffs like most American sports leagues. Is it going to be like Olympic event with first season being played in LA, second season in NY, third season in London, etc.? Then, teams would have to look for temporary team house every season...

The whole point is that it's the first ever truly international league in any sport, physical or electronic. Dividing it into regions would take away the whole point of the OWL. It's going to be international, and by year 2, there will be home and away games, except global.

But does it? We still perceive NBA as one league. Same goes with MLS and MLB. If OWL function like those leagues, not like European football leagues (with UEFA Champions League) or LoL World Championship in that they have separate independent leagues, I think people will still see OWL as one league.
I really don't know how OWL will turn out. I am not trying to guess what they are going to do or anything like that. I am so lost that I just want to see if there is any reasonable way to carry out truly international league successfully.

Yep, that's what I was referring to when I said LoL World Championship. But LoL World Champ is more like UEFA Champions League in that they have multiple leagues ran by different organizations with different league structures. They even invite "Wild cards" for the teams that are not part of the leagues that normally participate in LoL World Champ I think. So I think that is quite different from what I was getting at with OWL.
But yeah, I think this certainly is a confusing topic that probably deserves a separate thread. At this point, who knows how Blizzard will run it, but I certainly hope they do it well because future of Overwatch eSport certainly seems to be dependent on its success.

To elaborate on what I meant by dividing the league into separate regions,

Let's say we get Beijing and Sydney as additional two teams, then we have:
LA#1, LA#2, SF, Austin-Dallas, Miami-Orlando, NY, Boston, London, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Sydney.

So if you divide them into 3 regions:
Region A:
LA#1
LA#2
SF
Austin-Dallas

Region B:
Miami-Orlando
NY
Boston
London

Region C:
Beijing
Shanghai
Seoul
Sydney

Then, I think it will become much more feasible to carry out home and away matches. Regional matches followed by playoffs with top 1 or 2 teams from each region maybe?
I feel like OWL will most likely be just one league in one location for at least first two seasons, and if they get more teams later (at least 16?), they might separate into regional leagues like this.

OpTic is apparently securing the OWL spot for Houston

http://www.espn.com/esports/story/_/id/20672817/sources-optic-obtains-owl-spot-applies-lcs

From what it sounds like, EnVyUs is confirmed to be securing the Dallas slot, since I'm the article it talks about how they couldn't secure the spot of their organization's recently relocated home in Dallas, but this is interesting since as far as I can remember OpTic hasn't been involved with fielding a team yet as far as I'm aware

faze is not interested in an OWL team for now since they don't see a bright future in overwatch so they gonna stick to COD and CSGO as their main games that's what FaZe Teeqo said in his stream some months ago.
would be crazy sdb, carpe not being part of an OWL team so I hope they either change their mind or another team buys them.

Can you change LA 2 to LA Gladiators: https://twitter.com/JacobNWolf/status/915981487106801664

Add Numlocked, Soon, and Unkoe to LA (IMT) (not in place of anyone yet, Fate, Kariv, and Grim are still on the roster as of now): http://www.espn.com/esports/story/_/id/20954529/sources-immortals-sign-unkoe-soon-numlocked-la-overwatch-franchise

I could have sworn i have seen a post about Bischu joining team Boston or something but i can't find anything about that, so i'm not sure.

That's all i got for now.

Apparently according to buds optic is fngrfe but with mendo instead of him cause flame is friends with mendo

https://i.redd.it/oejdlqellpqz.png

obviously this is twich chat so take with a grain of salt but at same time I could see it happening with the complaints about friends being chosen over top tier players

In that case about half of OWL will consist of 4 amazing teams picked because of skill and the other half will be teams consisting of friends, can't wait.
