Good news if the leak is true. We need these top tier teams in the league for sure.
Would be good to see them improving enough to stand toe to toe with BLANK. More high level teams can only be a good thing for the region.
ROX barely got in because of challengers being cancelled and so many teams dropping out. GC Busan or Conbox look like they'd put up more of a fight.
I think I'd also like to see Conbox in their current form to see how the changes have affected them.
You can, Tracer/Soldier or Genji/Soldier are viable comps, but they didn't have that solid mid range hitscan that Unfixed would have brought.
Unfortunate, but it was an awesome match regardless imo.
That's unfortunate, might as well go full on no-life while you still can.
He's stage talent, not an official. Giving his opinion is part of his job, just like the casters or the other stage talent they have there.
Also, this:

Misfits have the Miami/Orlando spot and I'm assuming they're moving the team there but who knows if small or sweeping changes are to be made.
That or just no-life it like we seem to do. Epic shit talk/bants/puns might also work.
I think so as well, I was just wondering what they'd do for EU cities like Paris and the like. Being in the OWL would make the "dead scene" problem less of a factor, but you're probably correct.
True, but I think Koreans are a bit different in how they value teamwork over everything else. Just look at LH benching WhoRU for being arrogant.
The Korean team I listed has a strong base and if they had let's say Birdring/Rascal, it would also have the most versatile DPS duo the game currently has. Assuming there's no beef between players I fully believe they'd be able to find strats that work for them while they utterly destroy the competition.
For an example a bit closer to reality look no further than team South Korea. Even with Mano, SBB and Fl0w3r they dominated. Canada would have met the same fate had they ended in 2nd.
If western players had more of that kind of mentality, the team > self one, they might not have fallen behind them as much imo.
Hopefully we learn from EFFECT and all the other imports as much as they might learn from us so the level of play in Overwatch as a whole is elevated.
Then as Remiska mentions they may just need a bigger team. I'm guessing Contenders 0, OWC and Contenders 1 will all be testing grounds for OWL. I do wish their was a better way to give feedback on these events. Good Reddit and Blizz forum threads often get buried with non constructive comments so the team needs to sift through them to get to the useful ones.
Overwatch needs a healthy tier 2 scene if it's going to stay relevant. I'm not worried about the OWL, I want to know what their game plan is to bring back Orgs that can support players wanting to make it to the big league.
The competitive scene won't survive if there isn't a "little league" that feeds into it after nurturing and developing players to replace the ones that will inevitably leave. eSports careers aren't as long as traditional sports careers so we need that constant influx of new blood.
The transition is rough right now because they're breaking from the traditional model and it'll require both teams and players to adjust. We might even have a totally different landscape of players not in OWL by the time it launches and that the rest of the scene settles because not everyone can afford to wait until the OWL starts.
As Kophee points out there are limited spots and though some current teams might be tier 2, the players themselves might be tier 1, yet they won't get an opening spot. If those talented but not chosen players are to keep playing in the hopes of getting picked up they will probably need some form of reliable support so again, I'm really hoping Blizz also keeps an eye out for the surrounding Overwatch ecosystem, within reason, and help make it strong and healthy.
Do we know how many observers OWC has? I have no clue.
Less hype around this one because of the lack of implications but amazing performance by Singapore, good to see the squad coming together to show their got grit!
I fear for our lives if the Seoul team makes a Korean super team with an LH support/tank core and either LWB or DKP dps duo.
Overwatch gods have mercy on our souls.
I have to agree, I think they need to find a way to give more tank and support perspectives while keeping the flow from one player to another relatively coherent.
The Agilities 5k is a good example of what you're saying:

I, at least, found it hard to know wtf was going on other than the fact he was killing things.
Apparently APEX has an insane team of observers and their shotcalling is even more intense than the players! But I imagine this being much more difficult to coordinate than people think. A lot of viewers seem to talk as if they could do a better job without actually proposing effective solutions to the issue.
I quite like your numbers, if you have time, I'd be very interested in comparing viewership numbers between Group Stages to see hoe much of an effect hype and more importantly scheduling have on how many people tune in.
What are your opinions on the observing for this leg of the World Cup? /cow seems to be losing it's mind with ppl being openly hostile about the subject. A lot of comparisons are being made to APEX and rightfully so imo, but I'm looking for some constructive criticism instead of the widespread flaming that seems to be running rampant in the subreddit.

Do you think observing has had a negative, positive or no effect on viewership throughout this round? We saw some good numbers but could they have been higher with all the hype surrounding the SK team and their unsuspecting victims?

Let me know what you think, and how they could do better.
I think Blizz were pretty smart putting the Korea matches as early as possible, considering they're 13 hours ahead of us. Probably helped a lot with the Korean streams.
Hmm...where's ELLIVOTE?
Bout time they got in. Wouldn't have felt right w/o one of the best western teams in there. Just need Rogue now. I wonder if they'd move them all back to somewhere like Paris lol.
I didn't see it in the game against Russia. They were outclassed every time they tried to mirror the Dive comp so I'd have to say SDB most certainly has the edge impact wise. It's easy to look good when you're not being as contested.
Luckily this is a team game so as long as the squad can find solutions as a whole they can do some pretty nutty things.
Why cant he say that? Netherlands got absolutely destroyed by SK as we all expected.
He did call out Mangachu even though his D.Va play was actually OK. Not great, but OK. I see no lies in what he said and I don't see why the obvious can't be stated.
Oy, not a country. Dun open that can of worms.
Holy shit that was intense. Really hoping Canada keeps switching things up when the standard dive isn't working. Since their coordination isn't that hot the one thing they can use is their versatility in the number of comfort picks they have.
Good match. We still need to take down Netherlands so it's not over yet.
Why does Canada keep going back to shit that doesn't work? I don't get it, they could actually have won that match outright.
Canada looks a bit lost, cause trying to mirror Russia obviously isn't working but I'm surprised they didn't used the Pharah on Illios Ruins since I think they could have possibly taken it 2-0.
I hope they keep mixing things up to throw them off, they really need to take advantage of their versatility cause if they have any ace up their sleeve it might be that one
Yeah I get it, but I think you may have read too much into it. Speculating and predicting match outcomes can't be an exact science since it's all based on opinion and whatever other factors people put into it. You can disagree with the method but you can't quantify it as right or wrong.
TFW the Koreans spend all night strategizing because they thought they underperformed giving up a point on the previous match and crush your soul the next day.
Nice to see it from a player's perspective, good read.
Hopefully this adds more flexibility then confusion, but these guys have a lot to prove in the upcoming Season. I'm not entirely convinced they can make it out of groups with what they've shown but you never know in this ever changing landscape.
Found an interesting Reddit post that I decided to try out. A Site called guilded, that it trying to help match players to teams and teams to scrims:
I think I'm gonna have a go at it to see what I can achieve on it for fun, practice, or even comp.
Has anyone else signed up? I'm trying that along with the LFT Reddit subthread.
Cause it's fun to speculate and comparing these "super teams" to the likes of Arc6 and IMT is difficult to do since thye don't have the set plays of the established teams so going off of individual skill and recent results would be the most semi-reliable way to try and predict match outcome.
Of course this is OW so anything can happen, but I still think Canada can make the Pharmacy work. They have two of the best Pharah players in the scene and I'm not convinced Russia has as much coordination as IMT showed during Contenders.
I still think it's anyone's game though I give the edge to Russia based on what I saw from them and Canada...but I know ma boyz can clutch it and pull through.
We all know that who ever finishes 2nd had a very high chance of getting hella bodied so the fight is on!
This won't be a dull affair with SharP in the game.
How? They're by far the minority lol. And how dare you not support your North American brother! WE EVEN INVITED YOU TO MOVE HERE FOR THOSE THAT WANTED TO ESCAPE TRUMP!
Kappa.
Mangachu's a great pharah, a good soldier, and an OK D.Va, I don't know where that puts him when comparing his Off Tank play to Txao but when he's pressured or when he needs to peel for his teammates we start to see cracks.
My guess is that our best bet to win tomorrow is to abuse the shit out of Pharah comps wherever possible.
As for 1v1 matchups, I don't think there's as much of a skill gap as what's been said here but here's how I rate them:
The main advantage I'd give Canada would be more flexibility team wise and a greater possibility of viable comps based on each player's proven hero pool.
As for Russia they looked more coordinated than Canada in their games and that usually translates to more wins when skill gaps are minimal imo.
Really in the end the team that has a better day and that is able to execute the game plan with the more effectiveness is gonna win and I think it could be either or!
But let's face it, I live in out nation's Capital. I speak French and eat maple syrup flavored poutine everyday so...GO CANADA GOOOOOOO!!!
It's nowhere near Mangachu's or Surefour's. If Canada does get Pharah friendly maps I think they'll be going for that strat. It might be their best chance at at least getting 2 maps off the Russians imo.
No but I think that was expected since they kept the big matchups for tomorrow. I don't know if The Netherlands will be able to take a map off of SK so the only non 4-0 match in these groups, not including the qualifier, might end up being Canada vs Russia.
Hex getting picked off could just have cost them the map. I thought they would have pulled back to make sure they had 6 for the final hold instead of going in that deep solo. Very close, tomorrow should be nutty.
No need to be nice to people, as long as you're not openly insulting others I don't see why you wouldn't get upfragged. Hell we don't often agree and I usually upfrag the shit out of your posts.
Both teams 4-0'd their opponents. Clearly this game will be a 2-2, it was proven by science and therefore cannot be wrong. I know what I'm talking about, I have a rare as hell flag.
Haven't yet. Maybe we will if she goes off meta again?
I don't think there's any doubt they will. The main question is can they win their round of 16 match to make it to Blizzcon?
Wouldn't be surprised to see some of these guys on reformed teams, or maybe even in the Open Division. Lots of squad shuffles going around.
Maybe, but right now Esca has two APEX wins so I don't think it really matters.
Changsik's a pretty amazing Rein himself so I don't think it'll be much of an issue tbh.
Looks like they did a bit of Shuffling around.

I think this makes KDU stronger but I wonder if it also makes KDP a better team than before.
