OWL Suspensions

Can someone make sense of this for me?
Xqc- Tells Muma to suck a fat cock on stream to about 5,000 people. Fined 2,000 and is suspended the rest of stage one.
Profit- flashes the middle finger in front of an audience of over 200,000 people on twitch, 500 on Youtube, and at least 1000 on MLG. Not to mention he did it when the camera was directly on him. Kept playing the game and receives no penalty
They were both huge mistakes, but the fact that Profit is still playing is mind blowing to me. Xqc was barely playing for the Fuel and he recieved a huge penelty yet Profit, who is a regualr for the Spitfire gets nothing for it. Its not like they are waiting to give Profit a punishment either because they would have at least sat against Boston.
Tell me if I'm just being a dick about it, but to me, it just doesn't make sense

Edit: So I just looked and Profit was fined 1,000, which seems very light in my opinion.

Totally agree with you mate, at least he got fined.

Never like double-standards, and these clearly are, if anything (from a league point of view) this is even worse, XQC was on his channel, Profit live with over 200k people watching.

  • Xqc has had previous infractions such as throwing a comp game
  • There is a difference between trashtalking/banter and insulting someone in a way that can be considered offensive to a large group of people even if it's not intended that way. There is a difference between putting up a middle finger and using an ``offensive" phrase.
  • A middle finger just means fuck you.
  • The penalty was $2000 and suspended for 4 matches. The rest was from Dallas Fuel and was apparently about internal team issues as well.

Would a player deserve to get fined $1000 for saying fuck you? Probably it breaks some clause in their contract.
Also Blizzard is not consistent at all. Xqc only got comp bans because of the hate bandwagon and because he's a big streamer. Tons of people tilt and soft throw. People getting mad seems to be how Blizzard decides on different levels of punishment.

at least get facts straight, there were around 80k viewers on twitch
xqc wanted to insult muma and do it in front of audience
profit was just talking to his coach (whoever) behind the scene and camera switched to him in an unlucky moment

xQc is a repeat offender, whereas this is Profits first disciplinary issue. Both OWL and Profit's team acknowledge that Profit's gesture had no intent and was a joke between him and the audio team, whereas it could be argued that xQc meant what he said about Muma. Either way, what xQc did was more serious than what Profit did, and so a more serious punishment was required, bordering on excessive because they need to make an example out of him to avoid any sort of bad publicity.

I'd probably just repeat what #3/4/5 said so here is a tweet from Monte. It's quite telling that he didn't share an anecdote where he tells someone else to go suck a fat cock. Hopefully puts into perspective how the two are different

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-42775361 - whilst I'm sharing stuff, here's a BBC news article about xQc which even made it the front page of the website. I very much doubt "London Player Caught Giving the Finger" is gonna make it on there any time soon.

If Xqc's punishment was so severe because of past offenses, why is this the first time the fuel have taken action.

fuel probably took action to show that they stood with the league on punishing him. If xqc is coming off as homophobic it wouldn't look good for the dallas fuel organization if they stayed quiet.

Erm he actually looked into the cam before doing it, if you want to do show the middle to your coach, you do it in the waiting room, but these are details.

The point is am I offended by Profit's middle finger? Nope it wasn't direct at me (pretty sure about that hehe), but still he shouldn't have done it.
Am I offended by XQC's neaderthalian behaviour? Nope 'cause it wasn't direct at me, but still he shouldn't have done it.

Rules are rules, offenses are offenses, and fines/penalties are to be given.

Because previously they have agreed with the punishments. Presumably this time they didn't think it was severe enough, so they added on to it.

He thought that only his coach saw it as he was doing an audio check where his coaches could see it, and didn't realize that he was live on the screen.

For the longest time when I was young, my dad (an immigrant) used to point with his middle finger everywhere. Like FU restaurant Menu, FU book, FU that direction...lmao. I agree that cultural differences probably was a factor for bliz in deciding how to go about it. You have to take a more conservative stance and assume that they're still assimilating into western culture. Most don't even speak english well, so I agree with slap on the wrist of a $1000 and just move on. I doubt it will ever happen again. Though it is not acceptable for xQc to do the same. While you can argue that what he speaks is not English either (haHAA), he knows the full context of it where it cant be said the same (or to assume so) for profit. Just on that point would justify the different punishments for me, and that's excluding xQc previous history and whatever goes on outside of public eyes that could have also been a factor.

I feel like Blizz might be trying to make a point that the context matters rather than a list of X Offence = Y Punishment. It can be a pretty controversial stance of both judge and jury, but they've proven to me that they're not just another profit seeking capitalist company (cough cough EA) and they actually care quite a bit.

Meh my 2Cents.. More things I could have touched on, but I think its enough to convey my thoughts

You just can't do the shit xQc did in today's world. Imagine if a famous person called out another famous openly gay person and told him to suck a fat cock, doesn't matter whether he did it intentionally or not (how do you even say that kind of shit by accident? xQc is a child). That's pretty much career suicide whether you're an actor or an athlete etc. OWL will not stand for that kind of behavior if they want the league to flourish and get an audience. If he does it again - guaranteed he's done for season 1 and that's if Dallas doesn't drop him first

It's called reading comprehension, go back read my first post, I never implied they weren't both punished, I was speaking of double standards (XQC 2k + suspension, Profit 1k)

To make it clear, there are different levels to look at this whole stuff:

  1. the severity of the offense per se, out of every context.
  2. Is the environment in which the 2 offenses were made, which is Blizzard's sandbox.

In case one we can discuss for months of what's worse, being me gay I'd tend to say I find more offensive XQC's one, even thou it wasn't directed at me personally.
And I'd tend to agree that the moment both guys admit they did something wrong (like they both did) it should be over.

In case two there's no real difference, Blizzard with the fines is not trying to protect you or me (or any one), but the image of their competitive game, from this point of view the 2 different fines make no sense, hence my original post of double-standards.

That said I'm not on here trying to find fights (and for sure not looking to be insulted), so this is my last post on the argument, have fun.

I'll just copy what I said on another post regarding xQc's suspension

"I definitely think he deserves some form of punishment; that being said the OWL is still in it’s infancy, not even 3 weeks in, and since xQc has been on the Fuel he’s had his account suspended TWICE and now this. The punishment is for all of those things, he fully deserves the Stage 1 suspension."

Before i start, this is not MY ranking but rather a combination of rankings from different community members and pros as i decided this would be the best way to rank pros in Overwatch,

other than that not really sure what you mean by cope paste also its not even an article and yes tviq didnt do anything this year while knoxx was crucial to the success of the best western team in 2017 so id rank him above tviq

So...I'm totally OK with being down voted for this but...holy shit Remiska please stop acting like a child and calling people stupid when they say something you don't agree with. It makes you look petty and unable to hold a conversation if all you can do is resort to insults when a response doesn't make sense to you. You do this a lot, and at some point I'd figure you'd be able to learn from your own stupidity.

As for the original comment, as I understand it, wentaway was focusing on his opinion that xQc's punishment was way more severe that Profit's. In light of all this, including Profit's statement, and his lack of a prior offense history I think the relative slap on the wrist is appropriate. I won't think we'll be seeing that from him again in the future.

As for xQc he is being offered help, and even though I want to believe that he can truly change, or at least adjust his behavior to fit the expectations of the league, I can't say I'm as convinced that he won't find himself in hot water again some time later on. He has prior history and even though he probably has far more eyes on him it's also because of the twitch personality he's made for himself.

All in all I think both "punishments" fit the crime, the circumstances and the history attached to them.

Depends on the circumstances surrounding the event, the relationship between the people and the personalities of the parties involved though. the comment itself (Go suck a fat cock) isn't homophobic so intent and circumstances need to be accounted for here so that particular comparison isn't necessarily relevant.

That being said, in this case the punishment fits the crime considering where he looked like he was headed. I don't know what his personal situation is like to me it looked like he was on his way to pull a Dafran on his OWL career. As for the comment itself...well he kind of threw it out there on a very popular platform on top of not seeming to acknowledge the damage it could have done. Even if first "apology" didn't give me the impression that he necessarily though that was he did was wrong.

He also followed up his suspension with a series of tweets responding to some other people in the scene that made me want him to just go away for a little while because he looks like he really needs a break from all of this.

People like him aren't a rarity, w/o any medical knowledge about him he seems to have some level of attention deficit so him running his mouth faster than he can filter it isn't that much of a surprise. People do make mistakes, he's obviously made quite a few and his rope is probably much shorter than most of the other OWL players so I hope he gets a chance to learn from them this time around.

Now, this still doesn't make his actions any more acceptable, but it's something I think we should take into consideration before we go full on Reddit Character Assassination.

Just my 2 cents.

Doesn't seem to have caused much backlash OWL wise and afaik he hasn't been caught cheating in this game so I'm not sure why they'd go out of their way to ban him from the league tbh.
