Overwatch's Fundamental Spectator Problem

He has an interesting take on why Overwatch is so difficult to spectate, made a lot of sense to me. The whole title was too long for the post so I shortened it but added it to the link itself.

He didn't list solutions but the Reddit thread goes through some itself.

Why not make one team use skin of one color while the other team use skin of different color? Kind of like using uniforms with different colors in real sport.
Also, in spectator view, showing who used ults might be useful as well. In spectator view, sometimes it's difficult to tell who used what ult without looking at the ult gauge.

They kind of already do it with Blue/Red but I wouldn't mind them changing the Red because of enemy outlines and how red things usually symbolize the other team rather than a specific one.

That and keeping the same colors when teams switch maps and what not but I think he was mostly focusing one how the action was hard to follow and that no matter what camera angle you take you're likely missing key plays because of the nature of the game.

You will ALWAYS miss something juicy at any given moment in a 6vs6 high paced game like OW and nobody will ever be happy, if we see a genji killing 3 with an ult the support players will be crying they missed out on some sick lucio ult and vice versa, which is why a game made in this day and age expecting to be a good e-sports title should have a system that lets US watch through the game just like games have done for decades.

I remember watching WC3 and having the ability to watch whatever I wanted and same for the likes of Q3 (iirc?) and CS 1.6/GO yet OW has absolutely piss all in terms of spectating whether it's live or demo related so we are always forced to watch whoever the observer wants to watch and as I said, nobody will ever be happy and rightly so.

You'd think with Blizzard trying to make tens of millions out of the OWL and have it in major cities across the world this wouldn't be a problem at this stage of OW and in 2017 yet they don't seem to give a shit do they, I mean honestly how hard could it be?

One of the reasons he points out about this being more difficult to spectate is the true 3D nature of the game. WC3 wouldn't have the same issues because it's would arguably be much easier to follow the overall action imo.

You'd think with Blizzard trying to make tens of millions out of the OWL and have it in major cities across the world this wouldn't be a problem at this stage of OW and in 2017 yet they don't seem to give a shit do they, I mean honestly how hard could it be?

I can only assume they do give a shit given their interaction with the community, even through frustrated, but justified, cries for improvement. the dev cycle is certainly much slower than I'd like it to be but I think it would require a change of philosophy by Blizz to see faster iterations. HotS seems to have a similar problem since they've always been a quality over quantity type of company, good or bad.

Now if you equate that with them not giving a shit there's not much I can say but I do find it hard to believe.

Wc3 is no doubt easier but my point was we could watch what WE want not be dictated by someone else, if I played tracer I'd love to watch the best tracers in the world, how often do we get to see tanks and supports? rarely, yet if I mained winston I'd love to have that ability to watch winston as much as I want and this alone would make OW much easier to spectate because you don't have to switch between 10 players every minute, it is confusing so you can make it as confusing as you want.

Them interacting doesn't mean they give a shit, them giving people what they actually want will show how much of a shit they give, when has Blizzard talked about implementing a spectator feature or demos? talk is cheap, people are annoyed at the way we spectate OW and it's up to Blizzard to fix it, don't interact with the community because that ain't gonna do jack, actions speak louder than words.
