Could be that IDDQD is on until Sinatraa can play though. Depending on the length of his contract he may not be able to opt out, but I don't know.

100% with you on the Cocco thing, he's one of the best Reins in the west so I don't think they're even considering replacing him.

Also from how Reinforce was dodging the question on Dogman's Ulimate Advantage podcast I'm thinking that Cocco might even get to play at the Blizzcon playoffs for the OWC.

posted about 7 years ago

How so? I felt like C9 was a nice wild card for a while, though I think their weakness came from some players just not being as strong in the roles they played. I think he did as well as he could with what he had to work with but it's hard to tell since they only played in three tournaments.

posted about 7 years ago

Judging from the tweets of some of the C9 guys it looks like the KDP squad will be C9's OWL team. Neptuno is LFT and Mowzassa looked like he got blindsided.

Not sure what's actually going on here.

What I got from that is that Mercy is too good right now. That has relatively little to do with the skill cap/floor but I understand the concern. Honestly I'd wait to see what the pros actually end up doing with her if that's the angle you're going to take.

She no longer stops mass wipes but is an extremely strong deterrent against initial picks so a different play style will probably be needed to deal with her if at all possible.

It's been two days since she came out, I feel like people are having their usual knee jerk reaction to any change Blizz makes and the ever present echo chamber is in full effect. Let's give it some time and see if she remains too strong.

Personally I feel like some tweaks would go a long way in making her more manageable, but you also don't want to render her entirely useless in all situations.

Edit: I think one of the issues is that Lucio is almost at must pick status for the most part. If he wasn't we might be able to see some crazy support combos and this situation might not be as much of an issue.

posted about 7 years ago

Not sure I understand what you mean, they just raised the skill cap for everyone with the new Mercy, what Poi98 listed would make Mercy herself harder to play but give the other heroes more leeway.

posted about 7 years ago

A few situations that nullify the rez:

  1. Your first pick is the Mercy
  2. Your 2nd pick after the rez in the Mercy (most likely scenario)
  3. You win the team fight with multiple picks

The new Mercy really rewards team play and team fighting instead of the current solo queue meta of individuals carrying and getting the initial picks.

Either the community as a whole adjusts (across more ranks because this gets increasingly harder the lower you go) or Mercy just breaks the game and they nerf the CD on her rez. I think 45-60 sec on the cooldown would be manageable, you'd be looking at about 1 rez per team fight instead of two, sometimes three if the groups time to kill is too high.

I want to believe but they've been breaking my heart all Season long.

Seeing Bishop back in action really makes me happy. For a short while he made C9 NA the most unpredictable team in the west.

Hope he crushes it with his old Org and brings the pain to OWL. My only question would be what they plan to do with either squads afterwards, since I'm assuming there's going to be some measure of internationality in this team instead of just 6 Koreans.

Edit: Spelling.

MY and LGD are on the opposite ends of the bracket. I'm biased towards LGD so I'm gonna call them taking the finals 3-2 over MY.

You heard it here first folks!

Reading the full C9 announcement it looks like they actually acquired KDP, renamed them to C9 KongDoo, and will move the squad to London after Apex S4.

This is big. KDP is a monster of a team, but I'm also not sure where this leave their current C9 EU roster. Void, Birdring and Rascal are, imo, the best players on that squad with Fissure also being very competent...so would the plan be to just use the Koreans as the OWL team or would they be subbing in some of the EU boys? MikeyA, Nevix and Space are, again imo, straight up outclassed man to man while Neptuno, Grey and Mowzassa can hold their own or be arguably stronger than their Korean counterparts.

What do you guys think the plan is for this soon to be 12 man roster?

Edit: I also just realized that as far as I know they still have Bishop...if they do make use of him he would have come back full circle, working with a KongDoo team again!

She is a rez machine, but at least I've been able to pick her off immediately afterwards to cancel it out. Only having issues with her during her ult, feels a bit too long to me but I'll get a better idea after more matches.

I'm guessing the lack of sarcasm tags must have confused you.

posted about 7 years ago

Probably but I don't think they'd prevent anything that wasn't offensive. Usually branding guidelines are pretty loose but this new PC era will probably have the biggest effect on the teams/owners themselves.

posted about 7 years ago

Eve if teams announce their rosters Blizzard can still put it up as news on their OWL website. Also consider that Blizz could very well prevent them from making announcements on their own so that they can make it themselves.

They don't control the roster, but they can control the flow of information if needed.

Today was a day of upsets.

Not sure what I just watched there. GC Busan looked really good and took advantage of LH's lack of execution, it's just that the way LH failed was pretty spectacular.

I'm biased but it does feel like at times the LH DPS just aren't able to measure up to their opponents even with the clean strats they come up with.

The tournament is far from over for them so I still believe they can make the SF, but things will only be getting more difficult if they can't follow up on the openings they create for themselves.

Either it's true, or Seagull is participating in some next level memery. Wouldn't be that surprised either way.

It's a very worth while read imo, and thank you again to Robin for giving us more insight into the Korean Overwatch scene.

LH are the kings at coming up with strategies to deal with a variety of situations and this should be no different. I'm thinking this will be a 3-0 win for LH, but I could see them losing control and winning in 4 instead.

Looking forward to seeing who will clutch out when it counts, and if GC Busan have what it takes to topple the team that can very well beat you while facing match point.

I'm sad for Geguri since she finally got to play at the top level, and as mentioned she's requires additional expenses because she most likely needs her own living space.

Here's the Reddit thread:

Hopefully she ends up being picked up by another Org regardless since I do think she's a decent Flex Tank.

Rogue pretty much need a win here to keep their playoff hopes alive. Assuming that FNRGFE wins against RNG they have to get a huge win here, possibly even needing a 4-0 to get as many map wins as they can on top of hoping that EnVision doesn't get a single map, else they'll be tied in map wins (max of 16 for Rogue) with EnVision having won the head to head.

In the end though I think Envy win 3-1, I'll be very interested in seeing how this match goes now that Rogue are back in their optimal playing environment.

Personally I'd really like them to make it through along with Envy, FaZe and EnVision to the playoffs but we'll see how that turns out.

posted about 7 years ago

FNRGFE can guarantee themselves a top 4 finish if they get the 4-0 here since it would put them at 4-3 with 16 map wins, the same possible maximum that Rogue can achieve though the former won the head to head. They've looked very good against their latest opponents even making some of the maps against Envy look close.

I think FNRGFE win 3-1 with RNG possibly taking the control map if it's a Pharah friendly one.

posted about 7 years ago

Very important match for EnVision, they need to win two maps to be guaranteed a top 4 finish since it would put them at 4-3 with 17 map wins while FNRGFE would be 4-3 with a maximum of 16 map wins. A straight up victory would be preferable but the match going all the way would also work.

That being said I think FaZe win 3-1, possibly even taking all 4 maps if EnVision can't get back to what worked so well for them at the beginning. I'm hoping for an upset or a full set so that they get to move on to the playoffs.

posted about 7 years ago

It's unfortunate but this game will either be for pride, exposure or testing things out before OWL since both teams are statistically eliminated from playoff contention.

IMT can't get enough wins and KUN can't get enough map wins to catch up to Rogue or FNRGFE even if those teams lose 0-4 in combination with KUN getting the 4-0 here.

Tat being said, this is another chance for IMT to iron things out against a team that has a very clear weakness.

I think IMT win 3-1, but it's hard to tell how seriously either team will take this.

posted about 7 years ago

The problem with GO is that as other teams learn to deal with Doomfist better they won't be able to compete at the same level when forced to play other comps.

They need to be more effective with their non Doomfist comps if they want to make it into the playoffs.

posted about 7 years ago

Likely to be LH. Hopefully they do better than they did in groups.

posted about 7 years ago

Feels like EnVision lost both Nepal and King's Row to trying out strats that they just weren't good on. I don't know if they actually would have been able to win regardless, but the Junkrat strats were a colossal waste of time and they took way too long to switch off imo.

Very disappointing and frustrating match to watch for me. Hopefully they come back more practiced on what they want to run next tomorrow because they're going to need it.

posted about 7 years ago

eUnited looked much better with someone dedicated to the flex tank role for sure but I still wonder if BP would have been able to pull a TS had they been able to field Nesh?

posted about 7 years ago

I don't even know who I think will win this. Both teams made a roster change but Moffit being an active pro might give the edge to BP?

I'm assuming a tight match either way.

posted about 7 years ago

Interesting, Fl0w3r's birthday is after the April cut off so I wonder if they'll make an exception and allow him to sign but not play until he's 18 like Sinatraa. Either that or he has to miss out on the entirety of Season 1.

If it's the former Mirage could be an OK temporary substitute but I'm not sure I'd particularly choose him to ring in for a full Season since contracts are just one year initially.

Hopefully they can make something good with this or risk getting run over by the current apparent top tier teams.

posted about 7 years ago

Exactly, if they can do better than FaZe or even FNRGFE they'll have improved.

posted about 7 years ago

I don't know how to evaluate the Rogue situation because it's really easy to look good when the opponent is that bad. Will need to wait and see how they do against a squad that's actually good.

posted about 7 years ago

That would be very interesting. The only question would be how they'd do in a non dive meta with Kruise being such a strong Genji, but I'd very much like for that to happen.

Maybe they could even get another UK OWL spot if one was to be found...or C9 could just sign them all lol.

posted about 7 years ago

Incidentally it is, contrary to what we expected Rogue and IMT failed to live up to expectations and continued to do so even after their loss to EnVision. Add to that RNG, KUN and FNRGFE not being at the level of either Envy or FaZe and you've got the results we currently have.

Pretty much everyone but two teams turned out to be "weak" with EnVision being either the 2nd or 3rd best team. Depending on who grabs that 4th place and if they can get it together for the Playoffs one side of the bracket could end up being considerably weaker than the other.

The tier 1/2 landscape is looking mighty weird with all the shake ups but it's quite interesting to see who can take advantage of it.

I think the point here is that Blizz is making an announcement, regardless of whether they have control over it or not, it's still an OWL related event that they referenced.

I also don't quite understand why you think you have the authority to decide what he considers should count as a Blizzard OWL announcement.

posted about 7 years ago

RIP eUnited, as announced the Org is not pursuing a spot in OWL and all players/staff are now LFT but do we know if they're planning on finishing their last few remaining games of Contenders?

posted about 7 years ago

He went back to it though. As much as I appreciate the memes his Lucio seems to be integral to some of the strats they want to run, but I fully agree that they seem to be much more effective when he's on it.

It's just odd when random comments are thrown about as if we knew everything about the squad and how they operate.
