OpTic is apparently securing the OWL spot for Houston

http://www.espn.com/esports/story/_/id/20672817/sources-optic-obtains-owl-spot-applies-lcs

From what it sounds like, EnVyUs is confirmed to be securing the Dallas slot, since I'm the article it talks about how they couldn't secure the spot of their organization's recently relocated home in Dallas, but this is interesting since as far as I can remember OpTic hasn't been involved with fielding a team yet as far as I'm aware

There's an MGE comment to be made about this, not sure where or what it could be though...

If you don't use it and are familiar with the default movement settings, then don't use it.

If you want to try it out just to see how it feels, go for it.

If you're familiar with null movement and are used to using it (like myself), then use it.

Thanks TechDude!!

If Avast doesn't end up getting an OWL spot, hopefully he can go back to casting. I really enjoyed his casting when he was doing TF2 stuff and think that he could find success there if things don't work out for OWL.

Adam and dhaK are both supports that are excellent at what they do, so there's not exactly a "worse" choice between the two of them imo but that's merely my opinion.

If MESR isn't picked up as their tank I'm going to be very surprised. He's one of the best tank players out there and I can't really think of a free agent that would be considered a better pickup.

That at least leaves a wide variety of flex and DPS players open, and there's a really wide variety of players to pick from. Sinatraa, S4, shadder2k, Nesh, and others are all possibilities as well.

posted about 6 years ago

I'd agree. It's not that Kungarna aren't bad, but the massive pool of free agents out there is more enticing if I'm trying to put together a good roster for OWL.

  • MESR seems like a tank that's simply too good to pass up, and I'd actually be a bit shocked if he's not picked up. That's also assuming he doesn't get picked up before NRG make their decision
  • sinatraa is an insane player and shouldn't be without a team for long considering his success on selfless and the USA world cup team
  • Adam, dhaK, and even Luna appear to give a good starting variety of supports for NRG to also pick from
  • emongg, shadder2k, Nesh, skipjack, and the absurdly large number of Korean players that can be poached also leave NRG in a fantastic spot for building a new team

I do wonder if they'll end up keeping iddqd or benching him and giving the team a completely new look and fresh start for OWL. I feel like the likely option for NRG is just to bench him in favor of a completely clean roster, but I guess we'll have to wait until then

Bumping because the price went back down temporarily ($49.99 USD). Not sure how long the offer will last for though

Apologies for the bump, but a few keyboards that you should look for depending on which switch type you end up deciding on

Razer:

Blackwidow Tournament Stealth Edition (only razer keyboard with orange/silent tactile switches)

Logitech (the Romer-G switches are a bit different from your standard cherry mx switches at first but with enough use you can easily get used to them):

G410 (This one has a more gamer-oriented look, and the keycaps do certainly show it. That being said, it's a solid budget alternative to the G Pro keyboard)
G Pro (The more expensive of the two logitech tenkeyless boards that I'd recommend, however just about everyone that I know that has bought one of these has loved it)

Corsair (These typically come with Cherry MX Red switches in them and overall Corsair boards are known for being rather premium in both design and price at times):

K65 (Comes in both gun metal grey and RGB variants, with the RGB variant obviously being a bit more expensive. The gun metal grey variant is known as the K65 Vengeance)
K63 (Basically just a k65 with red LEDs and dedicated media keys. Still a solid choice overall though)
Another thing to note: The K65 RGB and K63 do not have detachable USB cables as far as I'm aware, so if you plan on traveling a lot/taking your board with you to places, the K65 (Vengeance model) is likely better for you.

Cooler Master

Masterkeys Pro S (Detachable USB cable, RGB lighting, and a variety of switch types including brown, blue, and red)
Masterkeys Pro M (Only including this in the list because it's slightly more compact than a full size keyboard, but this certainly strikes a great medium between functionality and overall features if you plan on using this as more than just a gaming board)

There are tons more keyboards from other reputable keyboard manufacturers like ducky and filco, but their prices may vary from model to model in comparison to what you'd end up paying for a similar board from one of the companies listed above. That being said, hopefully these recommendations help :)

It really depends on your typing/keypress style. If you constantly find yourself bottoming out your keystrokes, then it might be better to go with linear switches. If you prefer to feel for when the key actuates, then go with the silent tactile switches (cherry brown and razer orange)

posted about 6 years ago

HyperX Alloy FPS, Logitech G610, Corsair K70, Logitech G413

The list can go on for quite a while tbh

posted about 6 years ago

What type of switch are you looking for? Linear switches or tactile ones? There are lots of keyboards that I can recommend based on your switch type of preference. Razer also does have a silent variant of their green switches (razer orange switches), but they can sometimes be hard to find if you're looking for them at your local electronics store.

Also are you concerned about having a full size one? Or has the thought of the extra mousing space that you can get from a tenkeyless ever crossed your mind?

#5 I find it odd that you say that, since reds are typically regarded as the quietest switch out of the common switch types

I get that TSM hasn't had good success in fielding a roster but these guys as they are would be a fantastic addition to their organization. Same goes for EG given that both orgs are still looking to secure an overwatch roster

posted about 6 years ago

I doubt these guys will be sponsor-less for very long. Given their reputation as one of NA's best teams I can see orgs (EG or TSM maybe??) looking at this roster and trying to get them signed soon.

That was probably the closest game that I've ever watched. What a series.

posted about 6 years ago

On one hand I really think that FNRGFE would be a great fit for EG

On the other hand, the FNRGFE logo is so good that I would almost hate to see it go

posted about 6 years ago

A filter to display what matches (or maybe even streams) that a user would like to see that are upcoming would be nice since not everyone unfortunately has all the time in the world to watch matches from every region.

+1 on what #8 suggested

Also can there be an exchange rate of nerd stars so I can transfer over my nerd stars from tftv

Other than that there's a lot that's been done very well already

This is going to be a really good game that will go to at least 5 games, however I think that it's more likely that this set will go to the final map.

Gonna root for nV but it's obviously not going to be easy

4-3 nV advances

posted about 6 years ago

3-1 nV

tbh the winner of this is pretty unlikely to grab a win against KDP but I think that nV can bounce back from their previous set against X6

posted about 6 years ago

I really should read posts fully before I post myself but it is what it is

Either way my prediction for USA roster

  • MESR
  • Adam
  • Shake
  • GODS
  • sinatraa
  • GrimReality

I actually had a very tough time deciding on a 6th. It was a tie between GrimReality ,emongg, and harbleu (I can really see either of them being chosen in the end tbh) but in the end I chose GrimReality since dive comp/multi dps compositions are the meta at the pro level essentially.

I also had a few"Bubble" picks that could replace any of the players above in their respective role (in no particular order)

Tank:

  • FCTFCTN
  • Super

Support (flex):

  • Dogman
  • Michael3D
  • rob420
  • Rawkus

Flex:

  • harbleu
  • emongg
  • Voll
  • hyped

DPS:

  • Jake
  • Lui
  • J3sus
  • Calvin
  • Clockwork

world cup team not NRG team

Unless there's something that I'm missing here

posted about 6 years ago

I think it's safe to say that Seagull is probably the only guaranteed member for team USA. Not sure about other picks since there's a really wide variety of players that can be picked, plus you also have to include the streamers that aren't on pro teams.

posted about 6 years ago

As far as I'm aware this case is setting precedence for punishing bad behavior. Any sort of leeway given will be seen as a failure by Blizzard to properly run their own game, and as a company it is essential that the general public and playerbase of your game do not see you in that light.

It's a "fuck you" to his sponsors in how he's expected to act. As mentioned before, as a pro player you're expected to set the standard. And how he acted makes his sponsor look very bad, regardless if it was a matchmaking game or not.

Also didn't Dafran get picked up by Selfless by being highly ranked on the EU ladder? Or am I mistaking him for someone else? If that's the case, then it's even more ironic that the way that he got into the pro scene is how he got suspended from the pro team that picked him up.

posted about 6 years ago

As a pro player it's expected of him to set the standard. He knew what he was getting into and he should not be surprised that there were going to be repercussions. Also the analogy that you made doesn't make any sense because Dafran is being punished (by Blizzard) for what he did in game, not necessarily out of game. Out of game or on stream is more or less up to Selfless to how they want to handle it.

As this was really the first time that something of this matter has happened in overwatch I can understand Blizzard really trying to put their foot down and showing that this very young game that is being pushed forward should be taken seriously.

Honestly I think that Mendo might be their best bet if they want to get someone that could possibly fill Seagull's shoes

Speaking of which, he is apparently moving to LA PogChamp

This is obviously a monumental loss for Selfless with Contenders Season Zero only a week away. Dafran has been a huge part of their success as half of the superstar DPS combo with Sinatraa where he played a key role, defining their unique playstyle that many teams would go on to emulate. It may be an impossible task to find somebody with the same prowess and synergy to fill such big boots in such a short period of time. Current speculation places iddqd in the mix, as he has been spotted filling in for them in scrims and NRG failed to qualify for Contenders

I wonder if iddqd is just filling for contenders or if he ends up being Dafran's replacement

posted about 6 years ago

Really would have been nice to see a vod of this to see if NRG's issues were similar to what they were before or if there was simply something that eV outclassed them on

Also sometimes I wonder if NRG has considered putting dummy back onto a flex type role and trying out another flex support. His mechanics are fantastic which is great for playing Ana well but in the era of dive comps and multi-flanker/DPS compositions Zen and even Mercy are being seen more than Ana

posted about 6 years ago

I honestly don't know why they'd nerf roadhog considering that multi-dps comps are basically the meta. Maybe if just the head hitbox reduction change Is the only thing that goes through it'd be alright but roadhog is known for his hook and one-shot combo. Taking that away seems to be going against what he was designed as initially and what is known as too.

Kind of wonder if moving dummy to a flex (DPS) role and have NRG pick up 2 support players would be a good move for them

posted about 6 years ago

what happened to their 6th? I've been out of the loop as of late

posted about 6 years ago

why would selfless drop their roster they've been doing really well as of late

also with Rogue and EnVyUs in Korea they're certainly going to be at the top of NA unless a team like LG (Evil) or maybe even C9 beats them in a close set. I might have forgotten another team that can contest them but you get my point

posted about 6 years ago

What's frustrating is when NRG plays together and focuses targets, they are a really solid team.

However sometimes it genuinely seems like some players just turn off their monitors or take off their headsets at random times during fights and nobody works together or 1 or 2 people just feed.

I also want to believe that numlocked is a good tank, but whether or not he'll do alright or just feed feels like it's up to a coin flip at times and when you're playing against teams of C9's caliber, you just can't make those mistakes

posted about 6 years ago

I would hope that Blizzard shutting down some big online tournaments means that OWL is coming soon, but I can't help but think about the teams that aren't going to be a part of OWL. How else are they going to get in? There has to be at least some sort of way or idea to build out the lower tiered teams since they are still people that put time and effort into the game. Hopefully there's some sort of plan for this because if not a VERY major mistake is being made by Blizzard.

posted about 6 years ago

I disagree. His Winston this series has actually looked alright, but I would agree that when compared to other teams who run a flex tank, he does have some catching up to do. Plus aren't his primary heroes that he plays in nV's comp Winston, D.Va, and Zarya? Unless him running orisa on that one point on Nepal is something that is genuinely part of their strategy, there's a bit less improvement than what's likely needed.

it might just be me, but a lot of NRG's nanoboosts weren't that good. At least on king's row. I started watching during the end of the lijang tower game since I was busy but there was quite a bit to be desired out of them.

Obviously there were more things like numlocked having a lot of his shatters miss or get blocked but that's just part of what stood out to me
