He may not want another chance. The whole reason he did what he did is because he couldn’t deal with being a pro Overwatch player.

We may hope he fixes his shit and realizes that at least the money alone is too much to pass on as an opportunity for the future - even if he hates it.
Even if he's gone in a year - he earned his salary and we got to see some amazing plays - it's a win win.

Money alone is never a reason, if the opportunity itself was causing him to be that unhappy. You seem to forget that very important fact.

It's great if he worked on the issues he had, but what he displayed takes much more time than that to improve enough to be put in the same situation that broke him before.

Please don't take mental issues lightly.

How am I taking mental issues lightly?
Unless he's diagnosed with anything then his behavior is just being a giant dick with no justification - if you don't enjoy competitive/ranked - don't force yourself to play it, don't waste everyone else's time.
Playing in scrims and in tournament matches is a night and day difference.
Also anyone would be silly to pass on an OWL opportunity - even if you hate it it's better than any other job you can have at this age you are at, do it for a while even if you hate it, get paid, get out, you won't get that kind of a salary anywhere else.

EDIT: Also most of his issues were with comp/ranked play that he trolled and was toxic in. Tournament games are different and I doubt they were the core of the issue.

because he doesn't have disclose to you his diagnoses. Besides, it takes 6 months or more to even be properly and clinically diagnosed with a mental illness. Clearly, you have no idea what that's like.

EDIT: You have to remember, its not "Just ranked games". He's a streamer too. He was making a lot of money from streaming. That's pressure. His fans expect him to stream, they expect him to play, they expect him to do all these things and on top of it, they're paying 5 dollars a month. What if he doesn't stream? How do you think his subs will feel? what are they paying 5 dollars for if he suddenly decides he doesn't want to play anymore? Tough situation to be in for someone with an undiagnosed mental illness. Before all that, sure he could just say, you know what, I don't feel like playing this week and walk away but he can't with team expectations and fan expectations.

Ofcourse he doesn't have to disclose it what it is and give me the papers, frankly I don't give a shit. But at the same time you can't excuse someone of doing something wrong because "oh he has a mental illness".
That is not a justification and making it "ok" doesn't help with the person's recovery.

Clearly, you have no idea what that's like.

Clearly you know everything about me and can make that assumption safely, don't be a twat man.

EDIT: Just now read the edit. You don't have to be a streamer if you don't want to, you don't owe your fans anything, they made the conscious decision to spend their money on you, they can pull it out any second and not support you anymore.
If you say you don't feel well and don't want to stream and they don't understand, what kind of fans are they?
Players and streamers are not monkeys in a circus for your entertainment.
EDIT 2:
Seriously, if you think you can spend 5 dollars a month and expect a person to do your bidding just because of that, you're an entitled asshole and should slap yourself in the face, repeatedly. The streamer does not sign a contract to entertain you whenever you want it for five bucks.

Comp/Ranked was where he chose to act out in the manner that he did, but were not the core problem, as explained by himself.

You don't get it, and that's OK. I'm not justifying his actions, I'm saying it's not healthy to put himself back in the situation that "pushed" him to behave as he did.

"The money alone" isn't worth it. Until he and whomever is helping him overcome whatever issues he may have believe he's in a state where he can deal with the environment I don't believe we'll see him there.

#33

You still didn't answer in what way was I taking mental issues lightly.
Anyhow, the sole purpose of saying "the money alone" is that there is more besides the money, he can get a sports psych, he can get all the help he needs and a massive salary for at least sitting on the sub spot.
He is still playing Overwatch as seen by this reddit thread then what's the issue with playing better quality games in which you don't need to tilt, all the while you're getting help? (Besides having to move away from what he knows and who he knows - if he's close with friends/family but that's not known - and live in a foreign country, those are the reasons I can 100% understand)

My first comment was about how "money alone" isn't worth it if he's not 100% ready and able to come back. As in, money isn't enough of a reason to ignore any underlying issues he may or may not have resolved.

I did answer your comment, my whole subject was the answer, but you didn't seem to get it, and again, that's OK.

Isn’t Dafran like 25 or so, by the age of 25 one can earn way more money than in OWL, LOL, but of course if you’re talking about the guys that are around age 18-20 the money isn’t that little, though one could of course make much more money in ‘real’ sports.

Additionally it’s much more important in life to be happy and doing something which one likes than doing something one doesn’t like and being unhappy. Obviously if one doesn’t like serving at McDonald’s but get’s like 1,000,00,000$ a year for it, he can do it for a year and live a happy life after that, but ~100,000$ a year is just too little.

He's a massive twat with a horrible attitude, but simultaneously has probably the best tracking in the game. He's served his ban which was rightfully given so if he wants to get back into the OW pro scene then he deserves a second chance. I imagine he decided that a minimum salary of $50,000 over a one year period in OWL would be much better than minimum wage at McDonalds.

I hate him and love him. Think he has the worst personality of any player, but also has some of the most incredible mechanical ability. I'm on the edge for him coming back. I'd like to see him in contenders, I guess?

Everyone is being really harsh on him. It's not like he was out here aimbotting in games or fixing matches or something. He goofed off in some ranked games cause he has some shit going on. We should all be hoping that he's in a better mindset now, getting whatever help he needs and we should be hopeful that he wants to participate in OWL. The OWL needs that level of competition to be relevant. Say what you want but he's better than Sinatraa and honestly, he's probably better than any Korean, including Birdring. He is legitimately so good that MANY pros before they knew who he was, were accusing him of aimbotting on stream. Jake the other day said he remembered one of he's teams giving up in ranked because they thought he was a cheater. That's insane. He literally just spawn camps GMs and top 500s on command 1v6. It's not even an issue for him. He doesn't even have to really try half the time.

I don't think it's being harsh. it's what he deserved to be honest. You can be as good as you like at the game, but if you ruin the experience for other players by intentionally throwing games and then telling your large fan base to do the exact same, it's going to be massively frowned upon. With the way ranked is now, just full of one tricks and throwers, he needed to be an example of. In my opinion he's one of the most likeable toxic players in the game (a bit of a weird statement I know). He doesn't try to show off and in general seemingly played the game in friendly spirits, the complete contrast for example of sinatraa who I personally can't stand.

I think people will be able to forgive him for what he did, but I don't think it should be so easily thrown under the rug, as it was still, in terms of Overwatch, one of the worst things you can do.

I mean yeah, his punishment is not harsh. He deserved that. I'm saying he also deserves the opportunity to come back if he likes. The community should not crucify him for it. He did his time and if he wants, we should allow.

You've got to think about the larger crimes of esports. Think about iBUYPOWER in csgo, they were literally STEALING MONEY basically. Or people like babybay and the TJO brothers who are banned for literally hacking in REAL PROFESSIONAL MATCHES.

Dafran decided to play torb and sit in the spawn in some ranked games. Sure he's wasting people's time and it's annoying and he's encouraging others to do it but ultimately, the games themselves are meaningless. Those games are for pride and bragging rights. Thats about it.

Dafran is such a polarizing topic.
On the one hand you have the guy who went in ranked and basically threw some people's games for no reason (I know he had stuff going on but ruining random people's games is not the answer), plus it has been said by his staff and teammates that he got offered help and advice yet he still went down that path. More importantly, he legiti just gave up on a map against Arc6 when his teammates were still fighting on the point (I'll never forget ZP's reaction to that monkaS). Thought he deserved what he got.

On the other hand, you got the best 76 player in the world hands down, and a big fan base at that too.
And then the other day I found myself secretly hoping that he'd get back into professional play, just cause he's a big figure for the game and he makes for some crazy plays. He sounds cheerful in those clips so hoping he figured out whatever was going on with him and everybody can move on.
Whichever team gets him for OWL (I wanna say SF, but they got like 23856824 hitscans already), if he gets in that is, will be really lucky. Scary ass muthafucka.
Glad he's back.

I think he has bipolar or something like that tho. That's tough. That's not something you can just control or fix overnight. You need intense therapy and medication to handle something like that. Even if he was offered help, by the time it was revealed, he was already in the thick of things. Hopefully, he's taken his couple months to see a doctor, see a therapist, get his head straight, get his support system in order, and he can come back and not end up feeling overwhelmed.

He's just some kid from Denmark who basically overnight took a T3 team to T1 and blew up. It's small time fame but still that's a lot of pressure for someone with mental illness.

Assuming that he does have bipolar or something as serious and add the pressure situation and it's really not surprising how he acted at all. It's not pretty and it's a crappy thing to do but it's far from damning especially if he's able to show that he's gotten the help he needs and is working on being better. That's all you really can ask from him.

Now, if he comes back and repeats the same story, then that's something else.

Lol but he is... If he decides to come back. I think you'll see what I mean. The dude was never given the chance to prove himself against the best besides Rogue. It's hard to say with any certainty. He also never got to play Tracer because he is better than Sinatraa at Soldier so it makes sense to give Tracer to Sinatraa. Even though, he's better than him at that too which Sinatraa has kind of admitted...

I want to see dafran competing again because he’s a mad fragger and when I would watch his streams when he wasn’t throwing, it was obvious he has a gift for the game.

Being a pro is more than just in game skills, and those we're not certain of anyway given - as you said - he didn't have a chance to prove himself to the degree that we are holding him up to.
And that is why you shouldn't assume such extremes too.
EDIT: Also - remember how many people knew of GC Busan, NC Foxes or LW Red a few months back? Not a lot of people - now they are top teams of APEX with some of their players being thought of as one of the most proficient at their roles - and nobody knew of them sometime ago. Don't ever make assumptions that someone is better than the whole region, especially if the region is known to foster talent day in and day out, in every esport title.

Again, people wanting him to come back has nothing to do with what would be best for him and convincing him falls along those lines.

If he's healthy enough, has the support he needs and more importantly, wants to come back then power to him. Hopefully someone would give him a chance under the right circumstances and in an environment where he can thrive, but until then it's nothing but selfishness to ask for it, imo.

#41

Exactly. I get that he's impressively skilled, but maybe Dafran just wants to have some fun playing Overwatch without having to worry about all the pressure of streaming or esports. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe he actually does want to come back, but either way, people should just let him do his own thing.
