Great stuff! Rendering the poor viewership claims silly, but the true number I am curious of is week 2's numbers to prove viewership is maintained. Here's to hoping Blizzard and Overwatch keep the momentum going!

Its only reasonable to expect it to go down, but it also depends on who is playing. Hopefully the average viewership per game is at least 60k.

Any count with overall totals of Twitch + MLG + Korean/Chinese sites? I know lots of people watched on MLG b/c of the higher bitrate.

I honestly think averaging at around 60k for each match would be a bit disappointing tbh, they should aim at something closer to the 100k, of course this also taking other platforms into consideration (MLG, Chinese stuff, etc...).

I do think it will be pretty match dependent. I could see the outlaws v nyxl match bring a high for tomorrow.

We also need to take into account the time that games will be played. It'll either suck for KR, EU or both. The Seoul vs Dallas match was in the afternoon for Korea (school?) and very early morning for EU, probably limiting viewership from those regions.

What they would consider as successful still remains to be seen. Not really something we can quantify, even though just using numbers is very tempting.

I think they have to look at it two ways, first making sure the numbers don't decline dramatically and second trying to get them on par with other big e-sports titles because even though you can't exactly compare OW to CS etc you have to remember how much money is being pumped into the OWL compared to any other e-sports and I doubt the guys pumping all the millions in will be happy with sub par viewers just because OW is new, there's no excuse.

It's easy to get carried away after 1 day of like 3 games and come out with nonsense like "Rendering the poor viewership claims silly" because the figures where never going to be based on surges here and there but consistency week in week out so let's not jump to conclusions and talk pish after 1 day.

That's very true, thou what matters at the end are numbers (of people who watched the ads, sponsors, etc...) that, together with what they get out of merchandise, defines if somehting is succesful or not.

Numbers can't be debated (if public of course) they are facts, everything else is of course debatable and prone to personal interpretation, which is what we can do on a forum without the risk of making mistakes we have to pay for, it's "just words". :)

I agree with robokun87 thou, a drastic decline after 1-2 weeks, slow but steady delcine over months and not being "on par" with other major esports (in the long term) wil be considered negative, why should investors buy new slots for OWL if they can get more money (so to speak) by financing a CS or PUBG (should it take flight) organization?
