I see a lot of familiar TF2 names around in Overwatch (even old school players like syckness).

How many of you guys are making the switch from TF2 to OW permanently?

its not just tf2 people, its pretty much everyone. tf2, quake, dirty bomb, and everything in between.

It seems like a lot more highlander players are coming over to ow and a lot less 6s players.

tf2s "competitive future" was like 5 years ago, and valve chose to support go/dota instead (and correctly so honestly)

between the hype of overwatch (young seagull getting those 10k viewers) and blizzard saying they are going to be focusing on the competitive scene, i dont understand why anyone would be interested in continuing to play tf2, the game stagnated long ago. that being said, i do think overwatch has a lower individual skill cap, but a higher team play potential with 20 classes or whatever it is.

also the fact that so many players got a 6 month head start (including sponsorships) probably will turn some people off

I haven't played TF2 in months and honestly the comp scene doesn't look that exciting. Overwatch will just have so much more options and opportunities for the future.

TF2 comp was fun but it's hard to justify putting in hours when even if you reach the top there's really nothing to gain. There seems to be a lot of nice things happening and a lot of promises for price pools. So no wonder people keep hopping in.

in tf2 when someone kills me I can say "I could have played that better, he definitely outplayed me" but in overwatch all I can say is "THIS GAME IS FUCKING BULLSHIT"

also everything ricco said is correct

tf2 will always have a special place in my heart but its hard to justify playing it now that overwatch is out

pub overwatch isnt the best but i find pub tf2 to be just awful, i only ever played pugs/dm. tf2 is nearly a decade old at this point and valve has chosen to take a hands off approach in regards to the competitive scene which is why people see it as a silly hat shooter

people say competitive overwatch isnt fun, probably because you really need EVERY player on your team to be doing their job to win + a good team composition. i think it's plenty fun when you have teammates you can trust, and i have to say im enjoying it a lot more than tf2

flashbangs give me ptsd but scouts gave me ptsd in tf2 so you win some you lose some

5-6 stacks every game when you queue with 1-3 is the real ptsd

I'm having a lot of fun playing the game and learning the evolving meta.

also the fact that so many players got a 6 month head start (including sponsorships) probably will turn some people off

I do have to agree here, I feel so far behind in knowledge because I wasn't in the closed beta, even if there were massive changes in some of the characters.

sometimes i think my aim is getting worse from playing OW.... something feels off.

TF2, QL, dirty bomb, fights feel like they're pushing my aim.

OW just feels off. maybe it's all the abilities you don't have to aim, and how slow everyone is.

Overwatch feels rather ease to play, but difficult to not fall for insta kill ults. There are moments where if I was playing tf2, my positioning would be good but because players can press q and instantly kill half a team, I get destroyed. Fun game to play with friends tho.

in my prime tf2 days i would say i enjoyed tf2 in general better however the support in this game for competitive is insane and valve is poop. regardless fun game can't wait to see where everything goes with it.

I used to play TF2, then CS:GO competitively.
I still am going to be involved in CS:GO (casting), but Overwatch is insanely fun and I will be playing more competitive.

Ive been thinking about it but post #6 makes a good point and one that has made me not fully commit to a transition yet

I haven't played comp tf2 in almost a year a now, and after like 6 years I think its time I finally move on

if they don't conflict, I would definitely want to play both competitively, albeit at an amateur level

also the sense i get from my tf2 teammates is that they'd love to play comp ow, but they can't or won't buy the game

TF2 was alot more fun to play competitively and took alot more skill but the meta got extremely stale in 6s and the future for it in terms of an eSports is pretty bleak. Besides the 2-5 mccrees/1 medi strat, I like playing a game with different metas and different groups of classes as oppose to 2 scouts/2 sollys /1 demo/1 med.

Maybe valve will fix it with the matchmaking update, but they are gonna have to try real hard to get back its old players.

I love how this website was designed to talk about overwatch, and it's still full of people admitting tf2 is a better game and they're only playing ow because it's the in thing right now

To be honest I grew rather tired of TF2 after playing it for hundreds and thousands of hours. I think in terms of enjoyment and replayability the games are fairly equal but for me personally I just enjoy the look and feel of Overwatch, and the fact that there's never been a better time to get into a new eSport. So yeah, maybe it is just the 'in' thing right now, but I don't see myself going back personally. But everyone can play whatever game they wish to, it's not a war or a contest, just your preference :D
