3-2 Gladiators, calling it now.

posted about 6 years ago

I think this will go 3-2 Valiant BUT (and this is a strong BUT here) I'm calling a Gladiators upset of Spitfire later this week.

Check it.

I dunno man, like I get how this is non-news, but they seriously need to clean this shit up.

Sure you can just say Taimou is Taimou and his behavior is that of a 13 year old and he's always going to do this, but it's pretty embarrassing that we have to keep going through this because they can't remember to not say slurs on stream.

I can only see this as a net positive honestly. Forcing your players to scrim for 12 hours a day, I'm sure they were fucking miserable. There's no way that was helping their performances.

I think Linkzr's genji get's really exposed by how solid Libero's genji is.

I'm sure it's a contract related thing. I'm also willing to bet that having a veteran like IDDQD around helps a lot of the younger players. He is still incredibly knowledgable about the game, and I'm sure he is somewhat like an ad-hoc coach to the team.

Hoon in OWL WHEN

posted about 6 years ago

He hasn't, but a lot of the other players do consider him to be the best DPS player in the league. There were some videos going around of people on both London and Seoul saying that Jake would be the player they're scared of the most.

FWIW, I do think Jake is one of the top 10, maybe top 5 DPS players in the league, but I think he has some confidence issues that tend to plague him. Look at the difference in demeanor between him and Carpe (who absolutely went off last night) both during and post match. Carpe always seems to be calm, and keeping thought in check through out the maps. It feels at times that Jake can swing and tilt wildly in both directions. You can tell he takes this very seriously, and he's always extremely hard on himself after every Houston loss.

I think when Jake is performing and is "on", he's absolutely one of the scariest DPS players in the league, and it enables the rest of Houston's really smart and creative play to shine. When he's not clicking, he definitely tilts under the pressure of not performing.

I still think Houston are a top 3 team though.

Wooooooow what a match, that score line is not nearly reflective enough of how close that match was.

Tobi switching to bastion is BIG BRAIN.

So with this, and the Mei/Doomfist buffs, and Sombra firmly slotting into DPS, are we officially entering something like "the crowd control" meta or whatever?

I expect her and Lucio to combo really well in tank heavy comps, and her synergy with Zarya could truly be nuts.

Story here.

I missed this since I was on the train last night for the match, but truly a class move on behalf of the Mayhem's organization, and on OWL for facilitating the space for this.

Well I have a nightmare job with a nightmare work schedule, so it's hard for me to find time! I feel like friday works best for most people though!

Hey! I'd be down to check this out if I have the time. Thanks for the heads up :)

Me vs. ever getting out of diamond

posted about 6 years ago

This is getting me so excited for Contenders. When does it start again?

posted about 6 years ago

Im not to sure if it's more of a transfer (in like the premier league kind of sense) where they're buying out contracts, or if it follows a more North American way of trading players for other players and benefits. Since there was no draft, I'd assume it matches more of the of the former rather than the latter.

I think that instead of a big meta shift, we'll start to see more map/situationally dependent variations upon the meta. It'll be interesting to watch how the OWL meta evolves too now that new maps are being added into the map pool (KINGS ROW BAYBHEEEEE) and are played under intense scrutiny something like 20 times a week.

One of my favorite part about the first series of OWL was actually picking up new map dependent strategies from watching teams run them over and over again. Especially Anubis, where you get to see so many transitions between low ground/high ground.

posted about 6 years ago

Exactly this ^

Seriously, why are you getting so upset about this? Geguri has already proven herself to be incredibly skilled, and in a meta that looks like it could move back to being Zarya heavy, any time would like to have that pick up.

If you have an issue with women being happy to see themselves represented in OWL, I think you probably have some bigger problems that need to be addressed. You're actively being a dickhead about a net positive thing, and then getting defensive when people are calling you out on it. What you're talking about isn't even a problem that actually exists.

Instead of being mad about some imaginary Polygon headline that doesn't even exist or whatever the fuck it is that's got your underwear twisted so far up your ass, you could like go take a walk or literally anything else and let other people be happy about something.

Thanks!!!!!!!!

Announced this morning (Well, NY morning) along with Sky, Fearless, and Ado via the SHD twitter account

How are you guys feeling about this? It's certainly a big addition to their roster, but I imagine it will take awhile for Geguri to click because of the language barriers. Great to see her signed to an OWL team though!

posted about 6 years ago

This is such a smart pickup, Florida could finally start clicking a bit more now. Don't see this putting them in top 5 but this makes the middle of the table much more competitive and interesting.

Uhhh am I the only one that didn’t realize that playoffs happened on the same day as matches?

I don’t usually advocate for e-sports following the structure of regular sports, but there should have been a bigger gap between for plenty of reasons.

Hell yes, I love both of these dudes. Malik is so fun, and Goldenboy was great at the Boston Major while also having the flu. Can imagine he’s gonna be fun to watch in OWL.

Also, I feel like ZP is gonna end up being their go to caster for contenders and minor league stuff like PIT and such. Would love to see them rotate casters between leagues though since I do fucking love ZP

Would really really love to see FCTFCTN end up somewhere. I feel like either Houston or Philly could be a great spot for him (obviously), and oh boy would it warm my tiny, little, shrunken, tired, shriveled up heart to see him and CoolMatt play together again.

God, I just want Dallas to figure it out so badly. You can like see those flashes of a really great team here and there, and it makes it all the more frustrating that they suck.

Now that I've been living in NY for three months, I can be one of those people that are so sure that NY is the best place on earth, an everything else sucks and can go die.

NYXL 4-0

I think Buds is great but I think comparing beta window Window to how Widow is played now is a wild comparison.

The difference in mobility, and how on top of positioning and looking for weird angles that top Widow play requires now is something outside of good Widow mechanics altogether.

I do definitely agree that he is underrated though, hope he makes it to OWL soon.

posted about 6 years ago

I hope Boston wins this and somehow sneaks into Stage 1 playoffs off of some momentum

posted about 6 years ago

Damn, that was a really great match, super messy and fun.

I think Houston made some silly mistakes but I really admire how much they buy into their game plans. They're such a great contrast to a team like Dallas who can't really figure out what they're doing/find their confidence. Houston just picks something, goes at it full force, and if it doesn't work it blows up tremendously (see control center, Jake feeding Zunba to 1,000,000 charge) or it's super dominant.

I think Clock actually played pretty well, but if Linkzr was in and they had a better answer to Fleta's widow/pharah that it really could have been anybody's game.

CoolMatt made some really smart plays tonight and cemented his status as one of the best off-tanks in OWL. The heads-up play to boop the D.VA out of the window on Night Market was such a great example of how focused and strategic that guy is.

And man, Jehong looked great tonight. I think Fleta is fantastic but really, he gets carried a bit by his supports/tanks. I'm really interested to see Seoul play against a mid-tier team with top-tier mechanical DPS like Philly or LA Valiant. Would love to see how Fleta's play holds up against somebody like Carpe.

Still, what a great match! Always so happy to see a map 5 :)

posted about 6 years ago

Bunny was pretty silent for the whole match tbh. Was off tonight.

posted about 6 years ago

Was hoping this would at least be competitive. Seoul practically played like they didn't even want to be here tonight.

Will be curious to see if they decide to show up against Houston.
