OWL eyeing Melbourne

The Australian Financial Review has reported that Melbourne is being discussed as a potential franchise location for Season 2.

How realistic do you all think this is? Are there other Australian cities that should be considered before Melbourne? What is the most OWL-ready Australian roster? What would there team name be? How would this affect Mert's OCE power rankings?

Sounds legit! Can totally imagine Melbourne being an OWL city although Sydney is obviously a better option Kappa. A good city name for Melbourne would be the Melbourne Apostles, after the twelve apostles which is a Victorian natural tourist attraction. And whatever happened to the OWL power rankings?

Unfortunately, most, if not all of the writers, are students and OWL up until recently has been during the semester. It was too much of a weekly time commitment to be able to make sure the power rankings could go out every week and it didn't make sense to randomly start them back up again.

We will likely do them again next season, and I'm thinking it will be much more doable if we release it in between each stage rather than once a week.

Could be an interesting location to add, the crowd in Sydney last year was sick. Definitely a lot of talent and some amazing players in OCE but would an all Australian roster be OWL level ? On one hand, I'd like to believe that with proper roster, coaching and practice they could be. On the other, I can't help but think that they'd be a Mayhem 2.0.
I prefer mixed rosters regardless, but if it were to be an all aussie roster, I'd say:
Trill and Knellery for MT
Kiki and Hoowoo offtankers
Aetar, Ieatuup and Tails on DPS
Rqt, Frogger for pre-match spawn dance sessions and Kura (don't really know any other AU supports apart from Gunba who's coaching for Valiant right now)
Based only on previous WCs and a few OCE games watched here and there.

Also kind of a cliché name, but I like Melbourne Venom.

An all Australian team would get destroyed. I seriously do not get this mentality of having local players

Doesn’t have to be all Australian, but there’s definitely a few Australian players who are OWL level.

I defo agree, most of the players mentioned by Involv3r are definitely OWL material. I haven't watched many Aus games apart from a few games here and their but i recognize all those name and they impressed me every time i have watched them play.

That's what almost everybody said about Boston. They're pretty much locked in 3rd now.

As much as I want this, I can't help but think about the financial aspect of an Australian based team, I believe there may be struggles with finding investors, only recently in Australia has mainstream investment found it's way into Australian esports and it was not nearly to the sum of what the league is asking for a spot.

Would absolutely support them if it happened, and hoping to will it into happening.

That's true, but if Blizzard pushes it a bit it will happen, besides up until the end of 2017 I would have never imagined a "major" sponsor would pick up an Italian based OW team, and now Samsung stepped in, there's always hope mate!
