Something I've always wondered since the introduction of the OWL/Contenders tiering system is if there was actually a significant difference in the level of play between the two leagues since Contenders and OWL teams have never publicly played against each other.

Given that you've played in both, is the level of play in OWL on another level compared to Contenders? Or are some Contenders teams/players on the same level of OWL teams?

I think at times Contenders teams can be at the level of OWL teams. However with people getting upgraded to OWL it's unlikely for Contenders teams to stay at a high level. I think the only team that is consistently OWL level for at least the past year has been Fusion Uni. It's too difficult to keep a roster together that can also play at an OWL level without one or two of those players leaving for OWL. I will say in Contenders there's also the factor that you get to play at home in your own house and stay there all day in comfort. But in OWL you travel to the studio, for us it takes an hour to drive there. I think overall people play worse on stage even if they admit to it or not. However even with the worse play I think OWL teams would still be better than most contenders teams at least over the course of a year. I'm sure there's still lots of OWL level talent in Contenders as well.

What was your reaction when the team told you they wanted to promote you from academy to OWL?

At the time I had multiple options but I actually wasn't too ecstatic. Maybe if I got into OWL last year I would've felt different. But after failing so many times I just changed my goal to try and be one of the best, OWL or no OWL. It seemed more attainable and provable that way against the likes of Alarm in Contenders.

Was the transition from ATL Academy to the OWL team an easy one? Were there any hurdles that you had to overcome that were particularly difficult such as different time zones, new teammates, or a new competition environment?

I think I'm still transitioning to OWL. There's so much to improve on this season. Stats drive narratives and it's easy to look at them since they're in your face 24/7. I'm glad I lead one stat last stage but obviously there's so much more room to improve team wise and individually. Everything has an impact no matter how small it is. Everything adds up so it's important to keep adapting and putting yourself in new environments.

What has it been like as a support player transitioning over to the GOATs meta for Stage 1?

#24

There's a lot of micro adjustments but it feels good to have a lot of impact on the game. I think generally it's not too hard to reach that threshold of impact needed from a zen, however it still feels good to have that impact in the first place.

Do you feel less or more pressure to preform on an individual level now that you are on an owl team?

#29

About the same, it's about individual drive for me. I only want to win.

Hello Pogman! Love everything you do! :D I wanted to ask, what are some practices you do to improve or warm up your aim as Zen and Ana? I think my aim is decent but always want to get better. Can't wait to watch more of you in Stage 2 <3.

Ranked is the best practice in my opinion. Even if people select trolly comps it's still better than shooting predictable bots and patterns in my opinion.

If you went vegetarian (sorry idk if you are already a vegetarian) would it be for the environmental reasons or the “meat is murder” ethical reasons?

#36
Dogman

Probably for health reasons, I'm off and on vegetarian right now just to reduce my overall meat intake. It's healthy to eat greens + I'd like to see more esports players take health more seriously. Hopefully we get to a point where someones the Tom Brady of esports and is just a pro gamer till they're 50, hopefully it's me!

Play consistently well, we have really high highs and beat ourselves down too much. I want to win this next stage so I'll make sure we do.

I enjoy the current meta yeah. Favorite meta has been the meta with ana and genji. Always fun playing against players like agilities on genji and sleeping nano blades. Good times. I miss ana meta :(

You mentioned Boston's comms were quite different than other teams per your trial with them. Do you expect other teams to evolve towards Boston-style comms or boston to move towards the comm structure of other teams?

#43
Dogman
3
Frags
+

I don't think their comm structure is the best for the meta. Most comm structures seemingly work but the best in my opinion has a talkative zarya/rein and support flex. Those 3 have a lot of impact on the game currently. If you can get those players on the same page then you're probably going to be really good at goats. So to answer your question a mix of boston's style + others.
