I know that numbers looked impressive but
for example last years English stream had only 8k less viewers during peak (226 638 compared to 218 301)
what is good is the fact that national streams had a lot of viewers which can be seen by overall twitch peak being higher by 80k viewers (321 960 and last year 231 994)
Here stats for this year: https://esc.watch/tournaments/ow/overwatch-world-cup-2017
And here last year: https://esc.watch/tournaments/ow/overwatch-world-cup-2016

here also stats for all the qualifiers to owc (and my threads if anyone interested)

Numbers were better than people thought they'd be.

The overall was almost 2x as much as last year. That’s pretty good don’t you think?

I for one watch almost every match but watched it on the Blizzcon site, not on Twitch. Obviously we don't know how many people did that, but I imagine the numbers were in the thousands.

is that not just an embedded twitch player?

Well what really matter is that when blizzard push views they come...so we have to hope he will do the same for OWL even taking only a 1/3 would be a great numbers....real problem is that they didnt go with an european friendly timing....40 k french peoples and 7k from germany are big numbers

I'm not certain, but I don't think so. There was no chat, the stream quality options were different, and people said the colors were a little different (which is why I switched to watching in the first place).

Once they start offering those loot box, points, or whatever for viewing shit, its over. 1 mil+ viewers.

Special Mercy skin if you watch 4 games a week for the whole season.

good numbers. i was personally expecting the viewer count to be a lot less than last year.

yes but i pointed it all out in the post:

what is good is the fact that national streams had a lot of viewers which can be seen by overall twitch peak being higher by 80k viewers (321 960 and last year 231 994)

and this improvement comes from the presence of national streams and with pretty much same number of viewers on English stream i would say that interest in overwatch hasnt improved much from last year

That would screw over Europeans even more though

i already explained why, it turns out even some chinese over.gg member said to divide chinese viewership by 10 (source over.gg discord)
