super interesting read with some insight into owl (will nrg finally have team?)

"Teams will sign players to one-year guaranteed contracts with the option to extend the contract for an additional year." and
"Teams will provide player housing and practice facilities during the season which will meet professional standards set by the Overwatch League." this is nice

"Players associated with established Overwatch teams—even teams from organizations that have been announced as part of the Overwatch League —are not automatically signed to those rosters. By the same token, the Overwatch League does not preclude eligible players from joining any League team because of a previous team affiliation, as long as they are legally able to join. Players will be considered members of an Overwatch League team only when they sign the Overwatch League Player Agreement with the team of their choice and it is approved by the Overwatch League."
this on the other hand i dont like, blizzard is pretty much allowing players to screw their current teams and sign to ones that are in owl i hope it wont turn out like this but its a sad possibility

This doesn't mean that OWL is somehow granting them the power to void their current contracts. The phrase "legally able to join" applies to the limitations of current contracts as much as their age etc.

i know that current contracts most likely dont allow it, still i dont like it, also some might try to finde the gap in contracts brcause of this "Players will be considered members of an Overwatch League team only when they sign the Overwatch League Player Agreement with the team of their choice and it is approved by the Overwatch League." and its little bit too much blizzards interference into contractsfor my liking

Yeah though, this was the original plan for the league. Regardless of orgs signing players the league itself always aimed to have players sign to organizations within so that they would be bound to the league itself.

I think the player agreement that was leaked is something else in and of itself but I'm not a lawyer so I can't quantify it's fairness or lack thereof, but they want to emulate traditional sports and that's how those leagues are set up.

I think the interference only somewhat comes into play if you were already contracted to a team that got into the league, since you'd have to resign. Otherwise if you want to be in the league you still need to be able to sign, just like if you would have wanted to go to a different team. Think Harbleu and how Shaq money got him into NRG.

I think that was the plan all along, that players would sign into the lead by proxy of teams already in it. Just like the IMT squad had to resign their contracts.

That would also validate the long running rumors that free agency is much better for the league than whole teams. Note that to be able to join a team they still need to have no prior legal obligation, in other words they can't screw over their current team if they've signed a legally binding contract. They'd have to either be released or have their contract bought out.

Edit: What sideshow just said...DAMN YOU SIDESHOW!!
