  1. With a 144hz monitor, do I have to get >144fps all the time? On Overwatch I always get >144fps so that will be fine but can I still play games like Skyrim that I cap to 60 on a 144hz monitor?

  2. Looking online a lot of people say there is screen tearing if you run at a higher FPS than your monitor refresh rate. However, I have never experienced screen tearing or at least never noticed it on multiple computers that ran multiple games (TF2, Overwatch, GTA V, CS:GO, and many more games) way higher than 60 fps (60hz is my current refresh rate). For example I run Overwatch uncapped and it runs from maybe 260fps to 300fps, but I get no screen tearing on my 60hz monitor. But then I see so many people complaining about screen tearing, so how come I don't get it or don't notice it??

  3. As I said before I run Overwatch uncapped at ~300fps. If I use a 144hz monitor, will my FPS change in any way? Like will the number at the top left of my screen that shows my FPS change at all? From my understanding it seems that the FPS won't change, and it's just the monitor will be able to show more frames (144 frames instead of 60) out of that 300FPS?

There is still a little bit of image artifact if you run with higher fps than your screen refresh rate, but most people won't bother to spend time trying to find those tiny little artifact because technologies help you reduce the annoyance of artifact to the minimum level.

Also, if you're unsure about the input lag, use custom fps and if your PC run the game higher than 144 frames per second consistently then it's fine, don't worry about pushing your frame through the heaven.

  1. You wont get anything out of 144hz monitor if you wont get +144fps. And yes it doesent matter if you cap your fps lower in different games but you wont get the 144hz effect from your monitor if you dont have +144fps.

Also you wont get max worth out of your 144hz monitor if you wont get over +288 fps.

  1. False, it does not make your screen tearing :D thats somekind of next gen troll.

  2. Your FPS will not change anyway, atleast it should not be. You should be using capped 288fps in OVerwatch if you play with 144hz monitor, also keep the (*144) resolution on.

what's the rationale behind 288+ fps?

You will get less FPS running at 144hz vs. 60hz since it requires the graphics card to do more work, but 300 uncapped is more than enough to get over 200 at 144hz, i think.
