While I understand and respect that he didn't want to play anymore, I think getting banned and kicked from the team is kind of a dick way to go about it.
Could've just told Selfless he didn't want to play anymore and I'm sure they would have preferred that route
Oh well, GL to him with whatever's next
Seems like just a "haha I was just pretending to be retarded" message than anything. If he really wanted out (contract depending) he could have just spoken with the Selfless manager and got his contract ended. Seems like an odd way to go about it. Not to mention it's been so long since the incident why not say this was the case as soon as he was suspended?
Spawn camping and talking shit? Par for the course imo. As long as he's not trolling and throwing games he can do w/e the f he wants.
I will say though, Selfless sounded like an amazing org so I can only hope they would have released him had he ever asked. I don't know if he did or not, but trolling and throwing just to get banned is a stupid way to try and get out of Pro Overwatch.
If you have never been in a situation where you feel trapped by your own inability to stand up for yourself then good! For a lot of people though, the conveyor belt of life can drag you into situations that you're not prepared or able to deal with.
Quitting or having adult conversations about life aspirations / tough circumstances / whatever requires confidence to pull off and the right frame of mind. It's very easy to get sucked into a situation by just going along with stuff and then realising you're in pretty deep and never wanted to be there.
A very common response at that point is to self-sabotage and have external forces remove you, rather than face the situation yourself.
This seems like a classic case of self-sabotage rather than "haHAA I was only pretending to be retarded" to me. Hope he's happy and I actually hope he returns at some point because that kid has skills.
Yes he's young, and I do hope he learns and matures from this and I also fully understand how difficult it can be to reach out when you think you're in too deep.
That being said, I don't think it's enough to give him a pass. While he gave a better explanation for his actions I personally didn't feel like he expressed any remorse for them. Many an other in similar or worst situations were able to man up, and admit that they needed out and tap into the resources available to them.
Best of luck to him in the future.
