APEX Season 1 finalists Afreeca Freecs Blue have parted with both of their former supports, Dayfly and AMY, and have brought in two new players. Former offtank Mano has moved to fill the Lucio support role, while DongHyuN and AMON have now joined the team on offtank and flex support respectively.

The team believes Mano will be a good fit for Lucio due to his awareness and gamesense, while DongHyuN is known in the Korean scene as a promising player from ranked. AMON is a former HotS teammate of ArHaN’s who is new to Overwatch but is developing at a quick rate.

AF.Blue have a history of picking up promising new players and developing them. They made changes before IEM Gyeonggi to switch out two of their players; JIN and Yesman, the offtank and Lucio support, were replaced by upcoming talents Mano and AMY. At IEM, AF.Blue were given a bye into the semifinals but lost their game against Lunatic-Hai 1-3.

Following that performance, AF.Blue decided to make further changes for APEX Season 2. AMY split with Afreeca Freecs to join a lower level team while Dayfly was moved to substitute for AF.Red in their APEX debut.

After reaching the finals of APEX S1, AF.Blue were defeated 0-4 by EnVyUs. This prompted questions about the ability of AF.Blue as many thought they had travelled an easier route by knocking out REUNITED and BK Stars. Going into IEM Gyeonggi they were not favoured by most analysts despite being seeded into the semifinals - APEX S2 will be another tough test for the team, as one of the most competitive tournaments so far in Overwatch.

AF.Blue are in Group C of APEX Season 2, with Cloud9, Kongdoo Uncia, and CONBOX Spirit. Their first game is against KD Uncia on the 31st January, 2017.

The APEX Season 2 roster for Afreeca Freecs Blue is:

  • Kim "Mano" Dong-gyu (Support)
  • "AMON" (Flex support)
  • Kim "Adam" Yoon-hik (Tank)
  • "DongHyun" (Flex Tank)
  • Jeong "ArHaN" Weon-hyeop (Flex DPS)
  • Jeong "Recry" Taek-hyun (DPS)
  • Kim ”TaiRong” Tae-yeong (Sub/Coach)
