Alienware Monthly Melee March groups revealed

Continuing the current trend of online Overwatch tournaments, the Overwatch Alienware Monthly Melee returns for its March edition. The Monthly Melee will see eight invited teams compete over a two day span, March 18th and 19th, for their claim to a share of the $10,000 prizepool. Last month we saw the recently reborn Rogue roster demolish their competition - dropping only one map over the course of the entire tournament. Despite not reclaiming their throne at the top, LG Evil put up a strong performance continuing their claim at the top of the current North American Overwatch scene.

So what’s new this month? For one, this edition of the Monthly Melee is essentially an international online championship with Brasil Gaming House and RunAway joining the NA teams for a chance to prove themselves despite ping disadvantages. The road for these international teams will not be easy as both LG Evil and Rogue return to compete in the Melee and re-assert their dominance. This edition also sees the return of Fnatic to the NA scene after their trip to APEX Season 2. This also will be one of the last tournaments prior to the introduction of Overwatch’s 24th hero: Orisa on March 21st.

Prize Distribution

  • 1st: $6,000
  • 2nd: $3,000
  • 3rd: $1,000

Teams

Group A

  • Rogue
  • FaZe Clan
  • Fnatic
  • Brasil Gaming House

Group B

  • LG Evil
  • RunAway
  • Selfless Gaming
  • Immortals

Format

March 18th will see the first of the two groups play in a round robin for seeding into the playoffs, followed by the second group playing on March 19th for their seeding. The action then continues on March 19th, as the eight teams will then play in a double-elimination bracket; the top two teams from each group will be seeded into the upper bracket, while the bottom two will be seeded into the lower bracket.

Broadcast

ZP, hexagrams, and Slasher will be joined by Uber and Jason this time, bringing you all the action on the Curse Twitch channel. You can always follow any games you miss as well as the off-air ones on our match ticker.

Cool in seeing Selfless and their aggressive play.
Sucks that KR/BR would play, just due to the whole team being on a terrible ping, I think, 1- 2 members would be ok, but to have all 6, to me, makes the game unplayable.

Will they address this to make it more fair for the teams involved?

As a SA overwatch player and fan. Is really good to know that Gossu is looking to other teams that are not NA, it feels refreshing. Hope to see Fusion Girls soon.

Also, the ping to the brazilian team will be max 200, but I think they have better internet that us so probably 150ms

They don't have to play in online tournaments to play high level teams, they do that in scrims almost every day

You can still play scrims, the tournament doesn't start tomorrow. Meanwhile you're saying scrims are as valuable as playing in an actual competitive environment with stakes? That's not remotely true. A round robin group tournament that's online is perfect to hone whatever game you might be developing. I don't see any reason not to do it except insecurity in not wanting to appear like the same losing nrg side they were before. That's the completely wrong approach if you actually want to get better.

We have no idea what kinds of things they're working on or what other factors there might be. Personally I'm tired of seeing half-baked teams doing tryouts or what resembles pub matches in tournaments. There are plenty of other interesting teams to watch until they're ready to compete.

Maybe we'll see them in 2018 when they've properly gelled and fallen so far behind they'll be stuck in COWleague quarter finals.

So how long do you need to play together to "gel as a team". This is entering the same levels of stupidity as this whole "playing with friends" crap.

Longer NRG waits to show the public of what they can do, the higher the expectations are going to rise. Sometimes you wonder the thought process of people, i hope there are some fundamental issues affecting these decisions we are not aware of for the sake of sanity.

Unfortunately I see fnatic as one of the weaker teams of the tournament. In my opinion they're having an identity crisis and don't seem super strong/confortable with the comps they ran in korea. Hopefully they prove me wrong because I am a fan of fnatic.

Group A is really stacked it's kind of dumb, I feel any team with the exception of maybe BGH could take first in group b. Although the tournament is online and faze and fnatic won't perform as well online as they would on lan

Group B is definitely the stacked one. Selfless and LG evil are both top NA, and while IMT is in a slight slump they are still very good too. It will be interesting to see how Runaway plays with 200+ ping but teams can't overlook them either. Rogue should have group A easy, FaZe and Fnatic both aren't looking the hottest atm.

I think you are heavily underrating Rogue and overrating both FaZe and Fnatic.
